  • What Have I Done?

    I have...

-opened the door to a new me
-experienced feeling and looking like a godess in a whole new way
-made it clear that I don't want to conform
-let go of the damage, so that health can grow
    -taken a chance
-did something I said I would never do
-seen myself smile real pretty for the first time in a long time
-accepted who I am, where I come from, and how I would have been, if not for social pressure
-put down the fake, to pick up the real

-DONE MY VERY FIRST BIG CHOP!

    -by S.B., "moonflower84"

I finally did it. It wasn't easy. I felt like I had did something wrong about 20 minutes into it. But when I was finished, it looked pretty good for a home-spun cut. I still might wear my instant weave wiglet, until I figure out how to get the curly afro look, or curly twa (but not with a texurizer of course.) But for now, I'm going to enjoy my new hair. It feels lighter, I know my scalp is going to get the help it has needed for a long time, and I'm going to try and not play w/ it too much, or look in the mirror too much. But overall, it's all good!

Oh, and I'm so used to things burning my scalp that when I put my cholesterol deep conditioner in, I kept expecting it to burn. What does that tell you about some of the "hair trauma" that relaxers can do!

about the part in bold, i haven't seen ur hair so i don't know your texture or anything, but not everyone has a natural curl pattern. everyone's hair is different. a curly twa on you may look like a picked out fro on me, ya know?

but anyway, congratulations moonflower! welcome to the other side :Cool_049:

Thanks to everyone else on here, who posted pics. Y'all inspired me to go for it.

Does anyone use gel on their TWA? I was thinking of Dark and Lovely natural twist and loc gel, just because it looks like it has some natural ingredients.

    TY.

I do use gel on my TWA, but VERY LITTLE. And when I say a little, I mean a dime sized amount. The reason why I use it is to keep my curls tight. If I didn't, then my head would look like the end of a Q-tip because it's so short! I also use STA FRO GRO in conjunction with the gel. That makes it have that soft feel, not the hard crunchy gel feel. I really don't real the product ingredients, but I do look for gel without alcohol or a small amount of alcohol, because alcohol dries the hair out. (remember the feeling of your hair after using the infamous "black gel?")

    Hope this helps.

I use FOTE aloe vera gel if I need to do twists or to control the frizzies.

Congrats! I can't wait till I get to that point.
You can try to make your hair curly by twisting it while it's wet/or with gel and let it dry then take out the twists and it should be curly/wavy...but it probably does depend on your texture... who knows try it! ^_^

CONGRATS TO YOU! JOB WELL DONE. I FELT THE WAY WHEN I CUT MY HAIR , BUT WHEN I FINISHED I FELT SO MUCH BETTER AND PRETTIER. MY HUSBAND IS AWAY SO I FELT THE MUCH WORST BUT IT'S ALL GOOD. I HAVE NEVER FELT BETTER ABOUT GROWING MY HAIR. THE ONLY WAY FOR ME NOT TO PLAY IN MY HAIR IS TO KEEP IT BRAIDED BECAUSE I LOVE THE WAY IT FEELS. ABOUT THE CURL THING, I DON'T THINK THAT MY HAIR WILL EVER BE CURLY. EVER NOW AND THEN I GET A COUPLE OF WAVES, BUT NOT CURLS.( NOT COUNTING THE ROLLED UP NAPPY ON THE BACK OF MY NECK. LOL). GOOD LUCK AND I HOPE THAT YOU ENJOY YOUR HAIR!!!!
