I don't remember my life before perms. Since my memory starts at about age 3, that means I must have had my first perm at around that age, or if not then, at age 4. I'd have to ask my mom to be sure, but the point is I was very young. I wouldn't call my own parents trifling or ignorant for doing that to me, and I certainly wouldn't have wanted them arrested for child abuse. I'm not defending the parents on that show, don't get me wrong. I just think that some parents really don't appreciate how dangerous it is.

When I first started transitioning I was very indignant about the age I was when I got my first perm. But I realized that if I hadn't found forum, I wouldn't have thought anything of it. I also realized that my parents were doing the best they could and what they thought was right. Apparently I was a s2of62onthewayer when I was little. My mother probably just didn't want me to be in anymore pain and didn't know what else to do. Thankfully, the cycle won't be repeating with my kids, but I'm not going to judge my parents, knowing the loving and hard-working people that they are.

so no one still knows the outcome of the Judge Hatchett case?

I grew up the same way. For as long I could remember my hair was relaxed. I think my sister and I were raised this way because my mother probably didn't know what to do. I tried to go natural before but went back to the crack because I felt I didn't have any support. Now I'm on naturality and I feel so supported. The one thing that's more important to me than anything is that if I have daughters they won't have a relaxers until they are old enough to understand the choice and what it means.
