  • Transitions With Kinky Twists

I am currently transitioning with kinky twists. Haven't had the crack since May 2nd. I was wondering is there any precautions I should be aware of while wearing them, also should I be doing anything else to my head while in twists? I plan on wearing them on and off again until January. I took the twists out on my sides because I'm afraid of the damage it will do to my hairline.

Since I took my twists out on the side and plan on leaving those untwisted when I get them done again, will that make my hair grow at a different pace on my sides than everywhere else?

I would really love to know and the answer doesn't just have to apply only to kinky twists but any transitions that involve extensions.

    Much luv from Down South

I am currently transitioning with kinky twists. Haven't had the...

I statred my transition in late April and got kinky twist in May. I had them for about 2 months then took them out. Some can go longer. After, I put in braids for 2 weeks, took them out (cause they looked a hot mess) now back to the twist.

While the twist has been my routene, I or anyone else would not reccomend you put them in constantly like I am. Your hair will need a break. I do wash them 2 xs a week but I do not use conditioner because it tends to give my scalp the itchies and leaves a buildup. I use a light oil spray daily.

Ultimately you have to find what works best for you. Just remember to give your hair a break inbetween (I deep condition) and give it lots of tlc.

You will find bunches of great ideas here. Just do a search on whatever ? you have.

    Good luck!

I am getting braids this week and it is still up in the hair about which style I will chose. I think I have it narrowed down between kinky twists and the old school "individual braids...
I was so desperate, I even asked my 14 yr old son for his opinion????

I had kinky twists in for about two months. I took them out about three weeks ago. During that time, my hair was in braid-outs and roller set. I'll be getting cornrow extensions this week.

When I had the kinky twists, I washed them once a week with shampoo diluted in water followed by a leave-in conditioner. I added a combination of extra virgin olive oil and another type of oil that I got from the Beauty Supply Store to my scalp throughout the week. At night I tied them down in a silk scarf to combat matting. And I massaged my hairline (front and sides) to keep the blood flowing in those areas and made sure not to pull the twists too tight when I pulled them back into a style or while I was working out at the gym. That seemed to work for me.

I had the same questions so this thread has really helped. I'm going to try the kinky twist for 2 months and see how it goes.

I had just taken out my kinky twists after 2 months. My hair was a mess!! Tangled, and matted. Even some of my hair from my hairline had been pulled out! So, I would be very careful when you take them down and don't leave them in too long.

My hair is already long, so I will use my own hair for now on!

I think Kinky twists are just fine, but it's how you handle your hair that sometimes causes a problem. I wear them practically all the time. I do them my self, so I usually take them down and re-do them every 3 weeks. They could last longer, but I just don't like to leave them any longer than that.

For me, Kinky twists were the best way to transition because they are very light and don't pull or way your hair/hairline down. The only exception to this is when people pull the twists back into a tight pony tail constantly. That's a sure fire way to lose your sides.

Because I re-do mine every 3 weeks, I don't do a full wash while wearing them. I spray my hair occassionally with rose water, or very seldomly use braid spray, then when I take them down I do a shampoo and deep conditioning. If my scalp feels gunky from sweat or whatever, I use the ORS scalp cleanser to refreshen my scalp.

    Hope this helps.
