I'm getting locs started this weekend, and I have a quick question. I just BC'd about 3 months ago, and I have a nice length of hair to start with..but my hair is not even. When I got it cut, they cut it in weird choppy layers.

Does my hair have to be even to start locs in order for it to grow properly/look right? has anyone else started theirs with uneven hair?

also, is it better to start off with thinner ones and make them thicker as they grow or is that just a preference?

    thanks.

It is a preference. If your hair is already all natural, you can go ahead and start! Even if your hair is not the same length. Most people you see with shoulder length locks that are even-length across, got them "cut" that way.

No, your hair doesn't have to be even all over. That's just personal preference.

Also, it's better to start off with a size that makes you comfortable and adjust accordingly. Some people start smaller and regret not starting larger and the other way around.

Thank you! I'm just going to take the plunge and do it, I think it would be best for me to start smaller and go bigger as they grow. Thanks again

No it is up to you. If you did absolutely nothing to your hair it would still lock up. Some like it even some do not like myself. I just backcombed them and kept it pushin. 5 years later they are still uneven but they are healthy and growing strong. You will be happy you did.
