  • So I Picked Up The Latest Natural Hair Mag

In hopes to get new style ideas. I was surprised to see that most of the styles were either of braids or tracks(weave).

What magazine was it? I know that most of them classify "natural"styles as anything that doesn't actually involve putting a chemical on your hair, instead of shining the spotlight on hair unenhanced by hairpieces, extensions, etc.

Well it was a braid & natural hair magazine but it was more braids & weave than anything. I believe it had tyra banks on the cover. I was holding out hope that mixed in with the braid styles there would be some nice natural styles as well. I was highly disappointed.

Yeah I noticed this too when I would get microbraids. I would go to the salon and there they had the usual selection of black hair care magazines. I forget which one, but it has a "natural" section. That section was essentially braids or other weaved hair styles and it had nothing to do with teaching us how to handle our tresses without adding something on. It helped, in a way.

When I was ready to leave the braids behind, I knew that magazines were pretty much worthless. So I focused on gathering information from the Internet. However, I think as the community of both women and men that wear their hair natural grows, eventually more magazines will cater to natural hair and not weaves.

I hope so. The one thing that I can get from those mags are ways to part my own hair so that I can be more creative with my flat twist style. You can still "steal" ideas in that way even though they are touting the virtues of fake hair. Also, got the idea of how to twist my hair to get the twistout style in my avatar. It worked, loved the twistout, which was my first attempt at one too.

Mostly worthless from the stand point of promoting positive, truely natural images. Would never spend my money on them.

I have not looked at a hair magazine since transitioning and my BC. I would rather stalk hair albums for creative ideas!

    Exactly.

I think Naturally U is the only true natural magazine available.

I am usually a napptruality album stalker but I grabbed this particular mag before getting on a plane. I thought hmm maybe this will give me ideas while I pass the time. WRONG!! If all the albums could be put into a magazine that would be GREAT because I don't think the pilot would appreciate my wireless network messing with navigation systems while I stalk albums.
