  • Shampoo And Water Only? Anyone?

I was wondering if any ladies here use just shampoo and water only and NO other products like moisturizers, butters, gels, etc. For some reason, I've been thinking about doing this.

Yesterday, I shampoo, conditioned, and twisted my hair with no product. After my hair dried, it was surprisingly soft!!! Today, I rinsed my twists. They feel so soft and free! No dry crunchy feeling! And my twists still look nice after rinsing for the first time. It seems like rinsing twists works when you have done your twists on wet/damp hair rather than on dry hair. I'm also thinking that I really do not need to use conditioner. When I was washing my hair, I used Creme of Nature Shampoo and it does a fine job with detangling. Afterwards, I used Suave Humectant and my hair really didn't feel any different than if I hadn't used it. Plus, I kind of want to avoid conditioners because most of them have cones in them.

Anyway, are there any ladies here who only use shampoo and water only and no other products? If so, how has this routine been working for you? If it didn't work for you, why?

If you still use shampoo with conditioner, what are some conditioners without any cones??? I would like some suggestions on some conditioners with thick consistencies... not the cheapy ones like Suave, V05, White Rain, etc.

***Disclaimer: Please don't post and say how harsh shampoo is (I'm only referring to non-harsh shampoos that do not contain ALS,ALES,SLS,SLES) and don't post how if you did this routine it will dry your hair out. I only want to hear from ladies who have actually done this routine and see what are the pros and cons of doing this routine.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Poohbear! Love your album.

I am not exclusive to shampoo and water, but I like...

Fantasia IC Naturals peppermint shampoo, no sulfates (dark green bottle)
    and
Burts Bee's Grapefruit and Sugar Beet Super Shiny Shampoo and conditioner.

I like the GrapefruitSugarBeet conditioner, no cones 99% natural and smells good.

I use this on both my 5yr old and my own hair (shampoo 1-2x weekly, daily conditioning) our hair are different textures, her hair super fine strands w/ tight curls, mine-thicker strands. I've gone from no poo to shampooing once or twice a week for about 2 mos. and so far I'm pleased with the results of these shampoos. Other than the Burts bees conditoner and the shea-olive-mango-avacado butter and aloe gel/glycerine conditoner I make myself, I really haven't found a no-cone no propglycol paraben free conditioner I like other than the cheapy VO5--and I'm a SEVERE product junkie, so bad there's nothing left for me to try or buy!

Sorry couldn't help but mention VO5. I've wasted many $ on expensive conditoners and have always gone back to VO5.

    Hope this helps!

    as far as I'm concerned::

    I use a shampoo ANd a conditionner..

I tried using only a shampoo but it dried my hair out.. may be it was the shampoo

If I run out of conditioner I would just wash with the shampoo and put some more oil or shea butter onmy head before styling it

i'm not sure you can find my actual shampoo or conditionner in the US .. may be in Europe only it is
"vegebom honey and shea butter shampoo" it is designed for "curly frizzy hair "

( If I was to translate it from french to english I would have labelled it " for nappy and curly hair" but I'm not a professional i guess )

My conditionner is by "snonas" .. It's a spanish brand I guess.. that conditionner is just wonderful , light and no cones

    But poohbear
I think it really depends on your shampoo and your hair... If your hair likes your poo then I don't really think there is a need to condition afterwards..
or maybe for a deep conditionner every now and then

i had a shampoo like that can't remember the name but it worked well with my hair

Pooh, I can only do this with my soap-less shampoos. Any of my others, my hair would snap off like a twig.

I sometimes go without conditioner, especially when I use the oyin poo bar or Dr. Bonner's almond soap. I can go without a leav-in but I am soooooo addicted to the greg juice.

I can do that with my shampoo bars if I'm wearing a pony puff. Otherwise, I rely on some kind of product for extra moisture.

    GET OUTTA MY HEAD!!!
I was just about to come post this! I just washed my hair with shampoo and an ACV rinse and my hair was so soft and defined! But then I CO washed and my hair got so tangled, dry, and hard. I feel that conditioner is completely unnecessary.
I used suave tropical coconut shampoo

I could do it with CON shampoo but the shampoo stopped working for me. It's a conditioning shampoo though so that probably has something to do with it. My hair may not feel hard or dry after I shampoo but I still follow up with my rinse out conditioner or my leave in conditioner. Shampooing raises your hair cuticles, leaving your hair more exposed and vulnerable. Conditioner seals the cuticle back down and helps to protect it from the environment so I condition for those reasons more so than how it makes my hair feel. There's never been much difference for me in that regard as well. I use AllSoft Heavy Cream as my rinse out conditioner. I tried a cheaper brand for a hot sec and saw a major difference so I'll pay the money for a better quality conditioner. I use Aveda Elixir as my leave-in.

I don't think that conditioner is neccessary. I've done just the routine that you mentioned. I would suggest an occasional deep treatment if you go that route, though.

I don't do conditioner washes and my hair is doing just fine. I agree with gilroygal, though... deep treatments are a good.

What deep treatments would you recommend???

    UPDATE:
My hair has been doing great with just washing with Creme of Nature Shampoo and using no other products. Very soft and moisturized! I only did this wash-n-go routine for about 3-4 days and got bored as usual with wearing a wash-n-go all the time. Now my hair is in two strand twists. But whenever I do a wash-n-go, I will continue to use just Creme of Nature Shampoo, detangle with my Jilbere Shower Comb, rinse with water, and go! ^_^
