  • Retwisting...what To Do

    Hi All,

Last week I told myself to try and wash and retwist my hair myself. I am finishing up my 4th week of locing. I have comb coiles. The hesitation that I am having is that my hair is realy fuzzy. I MEAN FUZZY this time around. When I go to retwist. I'm afraid that because I can't see the top of my head I may twist some pieces of fuzz into the wrong loc. Does that make since to you guys.

There is fuzz between the parts of my locs and I'm afraid that if I twist it to the wrong loc, it may look realy bad sometime down the road.

It's because of this that I'm truly thinking of going to the salon to have them twist it but I realy want to do it on my own. Plus I have a few I want to make smaller anyway but I want to do it myself.

Do you have any suggestions? Are my concerns no even needed because once I loc it'll all be ok? I realy need some encouraging words right about now.

My hair is very curly and a little soft. I don't think the water is working for me either. I'm gonna try something else to spritz with.

    TIA

    Hi Linette,

I think if you are so afraid to mess it up,go to the salon. It's only your 4th week, you will have plenty of time to retwist you locs yourself once you get comfortable with them. Plus I think that if you go to the salon for the first few retwists, then your locs will have taken shape. Hence making it easier for you to retwist them in the near future. Hope that made sense. But keep in mind that there is no shame in asking for help from a loctician.

    Hi Linette,
If i were you , i would go to a salon to get them done just so see what you may or may not be doing wrong. I am only into my second week, and my loctician has really encouraged me. My hair is soft and with a very loose curl and i may take me some time to loc but that is fine. My intent is to keep going to my loctician so she can keep them intact for me and i can do the routine day to day maintence (if anything) at home.

I got my locs done yesterday and my stylist adviced me not to get my hair wet for a month. Is that right?

I went to a loctician for the first six months until I was confident that I could handle it on my own. I still plan to go every now and then for pampering. Nothing wrong with that.

IMO I would lay off the spritzing so early in the process. It works for some but you probably have the same results that I had as my hair is soft too. The spritzing made my hair really fuzz up and unravel.

I am in my tenth month and have just started to shower with my hair uncovered this summer.
