I'm glad this thread is up again, I was stalking the last one. I plan to start the 30 day challenge from rawfoodtalk.com on friday. I've been of their forum a lot and a lot of the recipes that look good to me require a dehydrator and I'm not going to invest in one before I see how I do on this diet. Does everyone whose doing this have a dehydrator? Is there a cheaper alternative?

I got the American harvest dehydrator and attempted to make some flaxseed crackers. They were NASTY! Any suggestions? You have any recipes?

Start simple. I have an american harvest also. When I first started trying RAW food I did not like alot of the recipes I tried but as time went on and my taste buds started to change I am finding somethings that I could not stand I LOVE now. Like Avocados. I never had them before I started eating more raw food. I could not stand them when I first started now I like to eat them with tomatoes, onions lemon juice and sea salt. Chunky not like quacomole just cut up. I also did not like flex seeds either I now like them sprinkled on my salad. Also some of the recipes you might have to change around a bit. Like the raw greens I had to double the spices on the recipe for it to taste good to me.

Somethings that you might not like now you might like later.

I make veggie burgers all the time in my american harvest, and banana leather for banana crepes and spicy almonds.

That's a relief KendallB. Because I made the pasta and marinara sauce from AllTeenagersandToddle's DVD. It was good but it didn't seem as good as the ladies on the DVD made it out to be. Maybe after a couple of months I'll be falling out of my seat like they were.

    ...

Well it also depends on the recipe. Just like with cooked food not all marinara sauces taste the same. I don't like sweet tasting sauce so I didn't like AllTeenagersandToddle's but I have tried another sauce that didn't have anything to make it sweet and I like it. Also you might have to play around with the spices in recipes too. I have learned it's best to spice to taste with most recipes.

Why come the other thread was closed? Is it because it was 10 pages?

Anyway, I'm still here. It's like I take one step forward and two steps back. But, I'm determined to do this...

I'm interested in how to use the oven like a dehydrator too, I can't justify purchasing a dehydrator yet, until I've done this successfully for a few weeks with no slips ups...

Oh, ETA!! I've got a digital camera on the way now so keep an eye out for weightloss and hair galleries from me!!!! YAY!!!!

This thread has links about using the oven as a dehydrator. It doesn't seem to be that popular.

    I was 100% Raw yesterday

At my last break at work I had my avocado with my salad and I used OO and lemon and sea salt as dressing. I was stuffed when I got home I did not even want to eat. Later I did have a little bit of guacomole but after one bit and it was VERY HOT I drank about 3 glasses of water and called it a day I had bought it from a mexican store and I have gotten it from them before and it was not hot but who ever made this batch must of put a whole jalapeno or 2 in there.

I was 100% RAW yesterday also... KendallB I think we had just about the same exact thing. I had a salad for lunch then made some guacamole later and ate about half of that and I was pretty much stuffed too. Oh and some bananas here and there...

I have to start drinking more water, but I've never drank a lot of fluids ever, any suggestions on how to get in more water...

I guess we're all kind of similar. Breakfast was an orange and banana, lunch was salad, and dinner will be guacamole and veggies. It's my first day raw and so far so good. I went grocery shopping, got veggies. fruit, agave nectar, braggs etc. And unfortunately, the most disgusting thing ever, a raw revolution chocolate bar. I've never made such a disgusted face after putting something in my mouth. So I'll just stick to simple things like salads.

Ok, tips for drinking water for naturallyme. I drink about 100 oz everyday. I think what helped me was getting a Nalgene bottle. They're 32 oz, dishwasher safe, and I don't waste plastic. I make sure to drink three of them every day. I have 32 oz first thing in the morning and it..umm gets things moving if you know what I mean. Then another bottle and a half throughout the day, and then another 16 oz with dinner. I think it's good to have a decent amount in the morning, which is when your body is the most dehydrated. My bottle is right on my nightstand. And you can try squeezing in lemon or lime but I like to drink mine pure. If I go a day with less than 64 oz I feel like crap and it's like immediate pimples.

Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely try that. Instead of sipping all throughout the day, just go for it... Lol I'll be running to the bathroom for real! Which is a good thing

Well I was not much of a water drinker either now if I don't drink it I crave it. I found that it was the water I was drinking that I didn't like. I kept trying different water until I found one I liked. I like the reverse osmoisis water there is one that is bottled I can't think of the name right now but it is in a blue bottle and begin with the letter D and I think blue is in there somewhere. Anyway I found that Jewel had Glasier water which is processed the same way so I get 2 5 gallon things of it a week and I have a 1 liter water jug I got for like $2 at walgreens that is all the water you are suppose to drink in one day. So I have that and my cup I keep filling it up till it's gone. I take that thing with me where ever I go.

Today I was out with family and I got suckered into going to my all time favorite mexican resturant. I was trying hard to get them to take me home. I had no food on me. It wasn't until after I had eatten that I was like I could have just order the guacomoloe BUT I was still very proud of myself. I had only 1 taco. The people at the place know me so well they came over to see if I was feeling ok I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. They were really concerned. I was like man I really was coming here too much.

I got a recipe for what is suppose to be the best raw crackers from the raw family. I am gonna try and make them this weekend and I will let everyone know how they taste.

Ok, tips for drinking water for naturallyme. I drink about...

Where did you get a raw chocolate bar??? I found a book at the library that had raw chocolate truffles. I can't wait to try them. I am gonna write the recipe down. I also have Shazzies RAW CHOCOLATE book can't wait to try some of the recipes in there.

    ...

I got the bar at my local health store. It was next to the checkout counter. The brand is raw revolution but I swear, it's truly disgusting. Someone told me about another brand call lara bar but I haven't found that yet. I may go to whole foods and see if they have any.

I was 100% raw yesterday. I made a really good wrap with a collard green. I spread guacamole on it and added carrots, onions, cucumbers and mushrooms I had marinated for about one hour in braggs and garlic. It was really filling. Guacamole makes anything. But I don't want to eat to much of it. I want to lose weight. But I figure for my first week I'll eat whatever I want so I don't feel starved and break.

So far today I've had a green smoothie and I'm going to have a kale salad for lunch. Feeling good so far.

Just popped in really quick. I just got my digital camera and let me say I am disgusted! I was taking some pictures just playing around with to see how it works and I guess it's a good thing, but I really see myself now and it's not pretty... I'm really upset about how I just let myself go. But, I have to face it now, instead of hiding from myself so I know this will be the motivation that I need, really seeing myself...

Just had to post that I'm about to go work out now, so eventhough I'm really disgusted with myself this is EXACTLY the kick in the butt I need...

Remember Avocado it good fat. and so is coconut oil. I got some of the best tasting coconut oil. OMG!!!

It is Emerald Laboratories RAW, Extra Virgin, Certified Organic, Undeodorized, Unprocessed, unrefined and unheated. I have been putting this in my sesame seed milk in the morning and let me tell you I feel like I am can't never ever get tried of drinking this. It tastes good it fills me up and it's good for me better than any milkshake I have ever tasted. I got it at the local healthfood store. OH they better not stop selling this LOL!!!

Can you get coconut oil in the grocey store or is a health store kinda thing?

ok day 2 is over and I was 100% raw. I had a salad and cauliflower couscous with marinara sauce for dinner. It wasn't to bad. I was just weirded out that I was eating raw cauliflower. I don't think I've ever even eaten cauliflower cooked. Now what to do about tomorrows dinner. I'm trying to not fall into a salad rut. Any ideas? Remember my lack of a dehydrator.

I found the coconut oil and I'm so happy because it helped me make the recipe that I'm positive will keep me raw for the next 26 days. Cheesecake. If I think I'm going to crack, I'll just have some cheesecake. I'll make this even when I'm not raw. Plus it gave me some much needed protein. I've tried to make vegan cheesecakes before and they were vile. They all used tofu which just didn't work. But this one uses cashews and the cocout oil gave it the consistency of cheesecake. Don't try to use another oil because it wont solidify when it cools. Here's the recipe. It was really easy and fast, the long part was letting it firm up in the freezer.

p.s. Day 4 of raw and still 100% and down two lbs!

    Makes: 24 slivers

    For the Crust:
2 cups raw macadamia nuts ( I used Almonds cuz macs are expensive. Crust was fabulous)
    1/2 cup dates, pitted (medjools)
    1/4 cup dried coconut

    For the cheese:
3 cups chopped cashews, soaked for at least 1 hour
1/2 cup lemon juice (Original recipe was 3/4 but that was to much. Use 1/2)
3/4 cup honey (Vegan so I used Agave Nectar)
3/4 cup coconut oil, melted gently with low heat
    1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon celtic sea salt (optional)

    For raspberry sauce:
    1 bag frozen raspberries
    1/2 cup dates

    DIRECTIONS
To make the crust, process the macadamia nuts and dates in the food processor. Sprinkle dried coconut onto the bottom of an 8 or 9 inch springform pan (found in Target). Press crust onto the coconut. This will prevent it from sticking.

To make the cheese, blend the cashews, lemon, honey, gently warmed coconut oil (do not use microwave), vanilla, sea salt (if using), and 1/2 cup water. Blend until smooth and adjust to taste.

Pour the mixture onto the crust. Remove air bubbles by tapping the pan on a table.

Place in the freezer until firm.(Took about 90 minutes) Remove the whole cake from the pan while frozen and place on a serving platter. Defrost in the refrigerator.

p.s. Day 4 of raw and still 100% and down...

I don't like cheese cake but I think I might give this a try. I am finding food that I do not like I like the raw better. Like chocolate pudding. Can't stand it cooked. My mother said I must have been the only child born that wouldn't eat pudding LOL!! Don't even like nana puddin but I love Raw nana puddin.

DAY 3 RAW FOR ME!!!! I was not really hungry the last 2 days. Had mostly water today and some almond milk for breakfast and a few tomatoes that was it and I am not even hungry.

Saturday is girls night out for me and 11 of my friends we got 2 hotel rooms no kids, husbands boyfriends we are gonna eat and get pampered at the spa. So I have to make a bunch of stuff for me to take so I won't be tempted.

I'm starting to like other things too. Never thought I'd eat raw collard greens. And I used to hate avocados but now I'm putting it in my salads and putting guacamole on everything. I'm going to try a recipe for ravioli tomorrow. It uses turnips as pasta. I've never eaten a turnip in my life. If the recipe is good I'll post it. How's everyone else doing?

Well, I'm doing miserable right now... I don't know why I'm having such a hard time staying RAW. So, I started thinking back on what I did in the past when I was successful at sticking with a new plan that I'm not doing now which is I'm not organized at all. I've been just buying bags of salad mixes and bananas and a couple of other items, so I get bored. So I'm spending the next couple of days researching different recipes that are simple and sound like something I like. I've got a couple already and will post after I try them if they're any good. I think what I'll also do is like every third day just do juices and green smoothies all day also to change it up.

I am determined to do this and I know I'll eventually get it right, I'm hoping being a bit more organized and prepared will be the key to this for me...

Mum95ruth & KendallB Ya'll are doing awesome, keep it up! It definitely helps keep me 7lilloves4me and keep those recipes coming!

Hey, if I was surviving off of salads and bananas I would have quit on the second day, no doubt. Try making salsa or guacamole and using it as a dip with veggies, or making a huge fruit salad, or trying different things with your salads. I always make my salad different. I'll add in raisins, or avoocados, jalapenos, bell peppers, marinated mushrooms. I've just discovered sun dried tomatoes. It's like eating pizza. Or you could buy a frozen berry mix add the banana and throw it in the blender for a smoothie. I do that, adding a handfull of spinach. Here are some recipes I've tried or am planning to try.

    Collard Green Wraps My favorite
    Ravioli and other recipes
Lots of recipes for all meals

HTH. You can do it! Just make sure you're never hungry. That's my plan. You should start a blog on the rawfoodtalk forum to track your progress.

I'm currently not part of the challenge, but have been lurking. I'm a lacto-vegetarian and am trying to eliminate dairy from my diet. Raw foodism has intrigued me since I first discovered it, and I commend you ladies for your dedication and pro-active approach to your health.

That being said I wanted to encourge you all to keep it going and also provide you with some insightful info that might mean the difference between continuing raw as a way of life.

Check this site out and go to the "Why Raw" section: http://rawvolution.com/

    Happy "Raw-ing" ladies!

Mum95ruth: Thanks for the link to the GLiving website. I started poking and it has a TON of videos for preparing organic/raw/vegan foods. What an inspiration!!!
