  • NO Trim

I am about seven months into my transition and I have yet to trim. I had micros for many these months but I don't know how to trim my own hair and I'm afraid to let a salon stylist touch my new growth of natural hair. Is this really a big problem?

Are you talking about trimming the permed ends? I don't think it is a problem as long as your ends are healthy, moisturized and not splitting.

You want to do little chops as opposed to doing a big chop? One method used by some who trim their own hair is to put their hair in twists as a way to know exactly which strands have been trimmed. You could try that.

I haven't trimmed either. I wear cornrows. I'm around 8-9 months in transition.

Well trimming is only necessary if your ends look rough. If they're fine there's no need to do so. But like I said, you could to it but as a way to slowly eliminate your permed ends without resorting to a BC. Up to you really.

kay535, you don't have to trim if you don't want to during your transition; however, breakage can and will occur especially where the two textures meet; (natural and permed) on your head. Just keep that in mind as you continue to go through this stage of your journey. I would recommend trimming periodically because it helps move you through transitioning and it reduces the amount of rough ends that can occur.
Whatever you choose to do, good luck.
