  • No Poo

Good morning everyone. I am about to do the big chop in a couple of weeks and I need some suggestions. I have been doing a lot of research on natural haircare(this site has been a Godsend) and I am looking forward to trying the no poo hair cleansing method. My question is...i am anticipating some buildup, etc. when I take my Kinky twists out will the no poo method be substantial in getting my hair clean once i take the braids out. If I should start with a shampoo any suggestions on which ones ( i have heard things about Dr. Bronners being drying even with dilution and I have heard that Suave works wonders). Please help. I am excited about my natural hair journey and I would like to start it on the right foot. Any suggestions about treatments (oils, conditioning) once the braids are out? Please help

Anytime you do the no poo routine buildup is going to be an issue. You can combat this by doing a gentle shampoo everyone 2-4 weeks, or by doing an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse. or by adding some clarifier to your conditioner (a little lemon juice, or some baking soda).

I have been doing no poo for about a week now. So I was wondering how often the ACV rinse should be done? Once a month?

After removing braids I would recommend using a mild shampoo (creme of nature) to remove excess dirt and product... If you would rather stay away from the shampoo you could use a ACV rinse, sage rinse, or baking soda rinse before no-pooing (don't use all three)...

    here are some recipes

    Hair Build-Up Remover Recipe
    1/8 cup vinegar
    1 cup water

Combine. Let sit on your hair for 15 minutes. Rinse and wash your hair as usual.

A lot of people low-poo. In other words they do conditioner washes and then shampoo/ACV rinse when they feel that their hair needs it.

My suggestion for a good shampoo is Burt's Bees Shampoo bar (product review in my album). It is very conditioning.
