I put braidlocks in my mother's hair over the week-end. My mom will be 72 next Saturday (12/18/10) and she loves her new locks. Mom's locks are about 2 inches long (one in some places) and not very full. She kind of looks like a plucked chicken. I'm wondering if anyone has any style ideas that I can show her.

Oh, mom lives in Atlanta but is visiting for the holiday. Once she gets back to Atlanta she will need someone who can maintain by latching. I took some pictures and I will post as soon as I get them off my camera.

    Congrats on your mom!!!!

How about doing an old-school roller set? She could use sponge rollers and a little gel or spray of setting lotion and water to make them look a little fuller. She could also rock some regal headwraps until her hair starts to look less spacey.

After I finished I set it with softspikes and set her under the dryer for 15 minutes and this was the result. Today I showed her how she can use scarves to decorate. She doesn't like headbands because they make her head hurt. Right not though she says she doesn't want to even touch it because she's afraid they will come loose.

I tried uploading a picture, but I don't know how. It's asking for a URL, but the picture is on my computer. Any tips on how to do this?

You have to upload it to a picture hosting website first. I like to use www.tinypic.com for uploading photos that I'll only use once. After you upload your picture, they'll give you codes to copy & paste to various places on the web on the side.

As for your mom, if she's afraid that her new locs will come loose, maybe it is best for her to let them be for a minute while they grow little bit longer and become more secure.

Let's see if this works. This should be mom day 1.

Well I can't see it, can anyone else?

When I first got braidlocks, my head was scalptastic too. I wore a fabric headband or a ponytail until they started to fill in. To upload photos, I use photobucket. com then copy in the img code. Click the mountain icon, then paste in the img code and the picture should show.

No, I can't see it either.

If you're using tinypic, make sure you highlight and copy the code in the "IMG Code for Forums and Message Boards" field. From there, just past it directly into the reply box. It will already have all the tags it needs to be read properly by the board.

    Yep, it sure did!

If you want to resize it, there's an option for that on the upload screen a couple of fields down from the 'browse' button.

I wonder if small sponge rollers would be better than the soft spikes? I think the curls came out too tight.

    Hmmm.

I'd flattwist them into a ponytail at the crown and add a "fluffy" phony pony". Maybe an afro-puff or some other curly syle'd puff. She could rock this look for quite a while, during which time the locs will slowly mature and fill in some.

I found a pic that is similar to your mom's hair. Let's see if it will post: I hope the mods will remove, it is too big, but here is the link: http://blaqkofi.blogspot.com/2010/12/things-change.html

Too funny QueenLocks, Blaqkofi is my loctician; she started and has maintained my Sisterlocks for the last 20 months.

Wow! How about that. Then I know she can help you with your mom and the spacing between her braids. From the look of the picture, I say she just needs patience and all the other strands will grow and fill in.

I saw your number and info from a message that you sent a few months ago. I'm going to give you a call soon and see if I can hook you up with mom when she gets back home. I'm going to do her first retight in about 4 weeks and she'll be ready for another about the middle of February. She gets lost really easy so hopefully she won't have a problem finding you. She lives in Austell is that near you?

    mmtheus,

I was gonna suggest QueenLocks to you, but I see you already found her. I live near Austell. The drive shouldn't be too bad for your Mom.
