  • My Transition Is Over!

    Hey Everyone!!!!

I cut the rest of my relaxed ends this morning. I transitioned for one year to the date. My last perm was August 20, 2004. I am so happy and excited to get rid of those relaxed ends.

My transition time was just right for me. I initially thought I would transition for eighteen months. But over the last month I have felt the urge to cut my hair and be completely natural.

Thank you DEE and everyone for being such a wonderful resource and making this journey so positive for me.

I don't have a digital camera but I took pictures with my 35 mm. I will try to post some pictures as soon as possible. Hopefully some time during the week.

    Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!

Yeah girl, I'm proud of you too. You must have had a heck of a time combing through your hair after one year. I plan on transitioning till at least this November or December. I am thinking of doing it during winter break so everyone gets a shock once I come back. Lol

i think i've decided to cut it at the end of next month...it's not an official decision, but i'm really getting the urge.

and i've only been in transition for a little over a month. haha.

    Thanks everyone for the congrats.

After I washed my hair I put it in braids so I could put my hair in twists after it dried. So I had a scarf on today and all day today I just felt so good and felt like telling the whole world.

what are you doing to celebrate? Whats your first 100% napp style?

My first style will be flat twists in the front and twist in the back.

Thanks again for all the congrats. I'll post pics as soon as I can.

sounds cute to me -- that first style of yours!

i'm not sure what my first style will be.

i was thinking....if my hair is long enough so i can grip it...i might try flat twists in the front and leave it out in the back perhaps adding a nice decorative something or another? lol.

but we'll have to see how it works out, i guess

Thanks SoulfulSista. It's my mom's birthday too so it will always be a special date for me.

Ya'll I just finished twisting my hair this morning because I went to my mom's house for her birthday on Saturday and then twisted my son's hair on Sunday. So I didn't get to start on my hair until late yesterday and I finished this morning. I absolutely love my hair. I feel so good inside I can hardly stand it.

My husband has locs and has been so supportive. He told me how good I looked and he was happy that I was happy with my hair.

My husband had bought this cowrie necklace that he thought was too femine last week so he gave it to me. That necklace with my hair just set the whole new me off.

Again I will post pics as soon as possible. Thanks again.

Hi my name is Alicia and this is my first...

You have definitely come to the right place. If I hadn't found hairtipsforme when I did, there is no telling how my journey would have gone. I was determined to go natural but I didn't know how. Before I found this site, at the beginning of my transition, I actually bought a flaming hot tool of hair torture and stove to burn my hair straight until it grew out.

I initially wanted to do a longer transition because I have always had at least shoulder length hair and didn't want short hair. When I started transitioning it was probably 2-3 inches past my shoulders. As the months went on and I had all the time I needed to transition my mind as well as my hair, I just knew it was time for me to cut the relaxed ends when I did. So I cut at one year instead of 18 months.

My suggestions is to read all the articles, the posts by Molly at the top of the transitioner and natural hair boards, and other books on natural hair care and the history behind our hair. Then when rln\">you are ready you should cut your hair. Make sure you are ready and then enjoy. I know a year was right for me but do what you feel is right in your heart.

And the ladies here are very supportive and will answer any questions that you have.

    Best wishes on your journey!!!!!

Well I just couldnt wait I was going to transition for a year, which would have been next May, but my permed hair was really annoying me. I cut it off sat nite (sept. 3rd) I only transitioned for 3 1/2 months and I dont mind it at all. I'm finally free!
