  • My Sisterlocks Will Cost $900?!?!?!?!

That is very good! I would recommend EVERYONE at least get a minimum of 3 quotes before deciding on a vendor for service. Glad you found someone who was more cost effective who does the same quality of work or better and THAT is the key.

Cost isn't the only factor when making a determination but a big one nonetheless. Good for you!

I can't imagine spending $575 to get my hair done. I just bought a washer/dryer yesterday and that cost me $550.
    How much will maintenance be?

I still wouldn't pay that much money for locs, but at least you found a better deal. It's a hell of a lot better than $900. Don't forget to update us with pics. Did she say how much it would be for maintenance?

How do these folks set their prices anyway? Is there a standard or are people just **** nilly charging whatever they want?

So do you ladies out there with sisterlocks think it...

Wow, I have about 10"-12" of thick, dense hair and I was charged way less than what you were quoted. That's insane. I say shop around for another consulant or go w/ regular locks if you cannot find a reasonable price.

I have to agree! When I got my SL put in it was 3 years ago and cost $500. I did it around tax time so I didn't really feel the hit but had never paid that much at one time on my hair. My justification was I really wanted them and that I paid $200 (at least) on micros that only last 2 months. Now, for me it was definitely worth it. My hair is very thick and I have loaded of volume. I'm not one to manage or maintenance my own hair, even when I had the creamy crack. I get my hair retightened every 6-8 weeks and the cost is $75 but in my case I budget for it because I don't have the patience to find alternative ways. I'd also like to mention that I plan to take the retightening course so I can retighten my own hair, though I'd probably would never retighten my whole head.

I do agree it's expensive and different strokes for different folkes but you have to be honest with yourself, if the cost is a deterient - it's not bound to get cheaper. I recognize that the cost of SL is REAL, so once I learn the retightening I'll probably stop in the shop two to three times a year. I feel like my hair is settled and I'll probably finish out this year and start 2008 retightening myself.

My mom is considering SL but can't swallow the cost involved. So I say it's not for her but she is also concerned about the maintenance involved in doing them herself. So it's a catch 22 depending on your situation. Good luck on making the decision to do locks at all
