    Hey peeps

I'm going to Mexico next Tuesday with two of my girlfriends to celebrate my 30th birthday.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest some hot spots for us to go to, good restaurants, places to visit, dos and don't, that kind of thing.

    Thank you in advance

    Hi,

I was in Cancun in May and everything is basically centralized so the hot spots are pretty much within reach. There are tons of bars and there are two huge clubs although the names escape me right now. Check out Carlos and Charlie's for food and just plain fun. Hmm for bargains you can take the bus to downtown Cancun. Word of caution, the folks down there are very agressive with their sales pitch for souveneirs. When you arrive into the airport, folks will try to offer you freebies so that they can arrange for you to view time shares, thank them and keep it moving or you will be there all day. Another thing is that folks in Cancun will attempt to bargain until it hurts if they feel as though you're not interested, the first price they offer is not the price of the souveneir. You don't have to say a word, pretend as though you're leaving and watch the price deflate extremely quickly, keep it moving and the price will go down even further.

Hmm that's all that I can think of for now, have alot of fun!!!!!

Lydicarol, thank you for your advice, but Hurricane Emily has hit the coastal area of Mexico, so I don't think I'll be able to go now.

Sorry babygirlwoman, I would have loved to post a review, maybe if the travel agent offers us somewhere else to go I'll post a review of that instead.

I've been in touch with the travel agent and have been checking the weather all day and it looks like we are going I'm a bit worried to say the least. But travel agent says its safe to travel and they won't refund us if we decide not to go. So Cancun here I come....I'll let you know how it goes.

So true. i went in August 2003. Pretend like you're leaving and the price will come down A LOT. Also the men are very aggressive. <_< The beaches are gorgeous though.

I went for my 40th birthday, July 15-20, so I was there during Hurricane Emily!!!

    What I learned:

Don't except any freebies at the airport, no matter how good they sound.

Some of the hotels actually work in conjuction with the timeshare people, (Royal Vacations) our hotel told us they would give the money back that we spent at the airport ($50) they gave us free breakfast and $175 in vouchers for any excursions, but, we had to listen to a sales pitch for time shares, my bad, vacation property.

Stay close to downtown, all the shops, restaraunts/bars are in walking distance.

If you choose the Oasis make sure its the GRAND Oasis.

    The beaches are beautiful.

Don't take any long sleeves, long pants, hell, leave your panties and bra too.....it was so hot and sticky I spent 5 days in no panties or bra, lol (TMI)

The salt water made my naps feel sticky, next time I'll make sure my hair is twisted or braided.

Don't take any money to the beach.

Oh yeah, they do not like American coins, if you need to take the bus or something make sure you have pesos. Also, make sure you have small bills, 1s and 5s, so you won't be left with to many pesos to take home.

Ms Rite: so they didn't refund your money?

I agree with all the other posters. I haven't been to Cancun in 5 yrs (it was June 2000 when I went). I don't know that I would go again. If I weren't paying, then I would think about. The first time I went, I didn't pay a dime and was at an all inclusive hotel. I really can't add much more to what's been posted.

Hope you enjoy if you do make it there.

I travel to Mexico at least once a year. Absolutely love the place. It's been a while since I was in Cancun. I kinda grew out of the wild party scene. I have stayed at the Club Internacional de Cancun, Grand Caribe, Costa Real, Aventura Spa Palace (more so Mayan Riviera). Most clubs are in the 'Party Zone". I would suggest CoCo Bongo. Insane party atmosphere. Also, Daddy O, Daddy Rock, and the Baja Beach Club. Those are the wilder clubs. Lots of drunk people, lots of loud top 40 music, and all you can drink armbands!!! I find that a lap in the pool early in the morn can knock out most of the hangover symptoms. Have Fun!!!

I went for my 40th birthday, July 15-20, so I...

    Nappalonia

We were suppose to go on the 19th, I got a call on the evening of the 18th from the travel agent saying it wasn't safe to travel They offered us a refund or the opportunity to go somewhere else, so the next day we went to the travel agent to see if there was anything else interesting going on. Luckily they had a trip to Cuba for a bit more leaving the next day. So I spent my 30th birthday in Cuba and it was so good

Cuba is an absolutely beautiful country, the Cuban loved us and treated us so well. In fact, the locals treated us better than the white people we left England with and were in the resort with That would be my only complaint about the holiday - I booked it as a package, which means we were on a resort and a bit cut off from the culture and local people...and had to spend most of our time with red faced english people who starred at us for the most part!!!

Thank you everyone for all our advice on going to Mexico, I'll probably have to use if for next year now...lol
