  • Lisa Bonet's "Locs(less)"

I thought Whoopi's were fake as well, I am not sure tho. I heard that was her hair she wore in Sister Act.

Lisa looks good in those pics posted above.

Lisa's locs look absolutely beautiful. If she did cut them then I need to mourn.

I believe Whoopi's are real. I read somewhere once that she has worn straight wigs for different roles, though. My kids watch her on Nick Jr. on her new show "Littleburg" in the mornings. They are so fascinated with her hair. It is good for them to see other sistahs and brothas with locs in the multimedia.

I dunno about the locs Whoopi's wearing today. I believe the locs she had back in the day (early 80s) were hers. I also believe that the hair she wore in The Color Purple was hers (and it was unlocked), so I'm not sure WHAT to believe now.

(I had an opportunity to find out a few years ago...she was at an art function I attended...but I was too shy to say anything.)

when she first got her locs i knew they were fake because of the instant length, but that was over 10 yrs ago, so i thought that during that time while her own hair grew into the loc extensions she was trimming the extensions eventually cutting them out altoghether.

Being that this is a board about people who are wearing their hair naturality, it is a valid discussion.

I just know I had never seen any like them.

She is gorgeous with or without the locs. She made them real or fake, they didn't make her.

Lisa Bonet looks beautiful in those pics! Wow! If she is sporting a baldie I'm sure she looks just as great. I thought the fact that she had false locs in the past (I don't know about the present) was well known.

fftopic I know this is about Lisa bonet, but speaking of...

I think that Whoppi's locs are real.

There is a process called "Integration weave❠I've seen it done on production sets. I've also seen the process done on a person with loced hair once a few years ago. It's how actors and actresses change their hairline in movies and it looks so natural. Rick Baker is famous using the technique.

First a tiny bit of a person's real hair is clipped short along the edges. Next the person's natural hair is cornrowed or stocking capped. Then a net wig with the attached hair in the center is added to the scalp with bonding glue. (The net is made to match the person's skin tone) After the net is attached along the hairline with a holding adhesive. The person's natural clipped edges are pulled through the tiny holes along the edges of the net with tweezers or a tiny hook tool.

Ru Paul wears integration wigs on his baldhead -except the hair on his wigs goes all the way to the edges.

Here is an example of an integration weave. This is a close-up of Beyonce's hairline.

If you can't see the net clearly on her hair line above. Go to http://www.beyonceworld.net/main.htm
to view the picture. I tried to post the link but something was wrong with it. If you go to Da Pictures and look under the âœBeyonce at the MTV Video Music Awards 2003❠section you will find the photos of her with an integration weave. Look under high quality pictures press room.

You can blow up one of the images on your own to see the net along her hairline.

Edited because I posted a bad link

Whoa, that hairline looks a hot mess! I'm not feeling it.

AFS, thanks for the detailed explanation, I would have never known.

Whoopi's locs are real. I met her in person in Chelsea a few years back. She grew up with my DH. She came for a neighborhood "Chelsea Guild" reunion with her brother and his girlfriend. She is shorter than I thought and everyone there calls her Karen. I have a pic taken at the reunion with Whoopi in the middle.

Fake or not, i like Lisa's locks and her bohemian look. I believe they're real regardless of what people say. Until she utters it out of her own mouth.
