Hi everyone my name is Katina, I'm from San Diego. I'm 32 years old and am in transition to grow my hair back natural. At one point about 2 years ago I went natural for a year, I loved it. What made me go back to being relaxed? I have no idea.....If I could take back that fateful day when I sat back down in the hairdresser chair and got that creamy substance re-applied I would. But anyway, when my hair was natural the texture was kinky curly, I have in between hair . I have alot of it too. I think I may have feared the unknown at the time and tried to please others also. Can you all relate? I've had everything from braids, microbraids, weaves, short cropped relaxers, long relaxers, fingerwaves, etc, you name it I had it.

Anywho, my hair got to a length when flat ironed to beyond the middle of my back, and could have gone longer if I hadn't have gone back. My curls were rocking, I loved it, but something made me go back. Well now I'm not turning back at all. I've made up my mind and this site has helped me with this decision. It gives me such pride to come on to this site and see my sistahs rocking their natural hair that I finally said "Im going back to my roots!"

I have short hair right now as I said, it's a short bob, I talked to my hairdresser yesterday and discussed transition, we decided on the long transition with me keeping the relaxer and then cutting it when necessary. I'm too bashful about doing the Big Chop at this point, and I don't have enough new growth either, but this will make me more brave in the long run I think. She tells me that it should take up to a year for the whole transition to be complete, and I'm fine with that, I just don't want the relaxer anymore and I miss my curls so much. I want to say I admire alot of you on this site who have braved it all and have gone natural, especially in our backwards thinking society. Now let the transition begin.

Thanks everybody. Oh I forgot to add, I used to get a touch up every
2-3 months at the most, since my hair is so in between. My natural texture is similar to Rachel True but a bit tighter curls. Also I had a dream last night that I did the big chop but I have no new growth, I freaked out when I woke up. I'm so nervous about all this, cause the last time I went natural I had weaves and braids to help, but I vowed never to go through that nightmare again. I'm really contemplating doing a big chop at the 6 month mark (August my birthday month) of growing the perm out. I just hope my beautician can hook me up with an awesome short style.
