  • i want one too!!!

i've been natural for about two years now, and haven't cut my hair since. i've gotten it trimmed, but not cut. it's pretty healthy, i have tried different styles including braiding, mini-afro, comb twists, etc. but what i really want is to have a large afro. my hair has a very tight curl, which does not allow me to have an afro like this ---> . the only way i have been able to achieve such volume is by blow drying my hair. i was wondering if anyone out there has any tips on how i can achieve this hair style without using heat. i have seen many sistas with large fros and i would like on as well. anyone have any ideas? please share...

Braid or Twist it at night for a bigger fro in the morning...no heat.

I heard that banding the hair is also good for stretching the hair out.

    banding.

i'm sure your hair is waaaay longer, so you can use those Goody ouchless headband to do it.
As shown, the bands are wrapped around the whole length of hair to stretch it out. Do it on wet or damp hair, take off when dry.

or try doing big twists or braids on wet hair to stretch it out.

then proceed to pick out the hair and enjoy your BAA.

i've tried braiding it at night before, but i can't really pic my hair unless it's wet. and as soon as it gets wet, it curls right back up. <_<

Braid or Twist it at night for a bigger fro...

You shouldnt need to pick it too much if you braid it at night. It should be already detangled and stretched. Rewetting it in the morning sort of defeats the stretching.

I have employed both banding and large twists at night to stretch my hair out when I wore it loose.

Either way, I twisted my hair first. Then I would band and wear either a satin scarf or bonnet to sleep. In the AM, I would remove the band. undo the twist, mist lightly with homemade spritz and pick it out from end to root one twist at a time. Picking it out dry was too harsh on my hair. It worked for me.
