lets not hate too hard on the permies because I too I have to run from the rain in some instances. In all my naturalness I got my twistouts wet in a rain while walking in chicago and ended up looking like "who dun it and why"

"Oooh girl what happened to your hair?!" That was me.

Why?Because my hair shrinks a lot with the rain and...

    Don't feel lonely :P
I too own (a few) umbrella(s), I'm an unrepenting fashion victim, and I like to wear matching shoes-bag-headwear, I had to have matching umbrellas... and show them off when it's raining
I just bought a beautiful flowery purple one

Thatàƒ‚à‚´s funny.... I also donàƒ‚à‚´t like shrinkage....I still own an umbrella and will go out with one if the forcast is rainy weather.... I love big hair so I donàƒ‚à‚´t see myself "singing in the rain" either.... :P But the permies reason is different....They want bone straight hair and the rain will expose their hair for what it is.......

I still do that I just don't like to get my hair wet unless I'm washing it. So what?

Yeah I noticed that too Jazzi . It WAS funny! Went out today and it looked like it would rain and I'd forgotten my umbrella and just shrugged. Heck I've been known to run outside in the rain and play while getting sopping wet! Folks look at me like I'm crazy lolol!

I think this goes back to, "You know you're a nappy when...."

I gets excited when I know it's going to rain cos that means there's more humidity in the air. My hair is all happy with the humectants. If I've got box braids or a fro, who cares about a little drizzle? It's not gonna do nothin' but hit the top and roll off, y'know? Might even make it look cute and curl up at the ends more.

The same thing would happen to me if i wore a twist out, ( even twists) or a afro puff and stayed in the rain

And that's the only reason why I own umbrellas. If it weren't for that, I'd walk around in the rain all the time.

When it drizzles, I don't even put up whichever umbrella I'm carrying and I get funny stares. When it pours, I do. But at least I have the option of getting wet if I want, and that is what I like.

Even back then, I thought it looked silly to wear a bag over one's head just so one's hair wouldn't "turn back" (what a silly term, IMO). I'd just deal with it if I forgot my umbrella or run if it was raining cats & dogs.

I know! It cracks me up everytime

when I left work Friday it was raining and I almost was scared since I'd forgot my umbrella...then I realized that I don't have a chemical fire cream, so I don't have anything to worry about. And so many permies will say
    our hair is unmanagable

Jazitone on her "I dont hate on anyone" comment: Don't take yourself so seriously. I thought it was obvious I was talking in jest from all the silly quotes I put in my comment. No one was bashing you.

I have been a staunch believer in umbrella's + hood + gloves ever since I first heard the term 'acid rain'. Maybe traipsing in the rain is a liberating experience, but I'll neva know.

When it's drizzling rain, I really don't run from the rain nor do I try to cover my hair.... same for when my hair was relaxed.

When it's pouring down rain, I do run and I do cover my natural hair.... same for when my hair was relaxed.

I still use an umbrella because I really don't like being wet...not really because of my hair. But if I do have a nice twist out or something, I don't want it to get too wet because I try to hold on to the style the best I can. But 95% of the time, I don't even care about having an umbrella ...

So... last time I posted to this thread, I was hatin' cuz I was still runnin'. BUT now I'm no-pooing my relaxed ends - since I am fortunate enough to at least have some texture hanging on - to get back in the right habit and mindset. I'm going to snip lil by lil until I get there.... Anyway, I was at my sister's graduation last saturday and as we were leaving, it was about to pour down raining and everybody was all running around like chickens with their heads cut off, trying to break their necks to get to the car. Mind you, this was the first time i'd gone back to the wash n go, so of course I was as cool as a cucumber. But the fresh perms were stressing out that day. The security dude said to one lady "You know you don't wanna mess that perm up" and she was like "hell naw" as she made a run for the car, bent over with a magazine over her head as if that would stop the rain. As for me, I was stopping to pose for pictures and speaking to people as I strolled by, taking my time back to the car. It was funny until I noticed my lil niece, God bless her, was among those running for the car. She's 12 now I believe, and her hair has been fried and laid to the side since she was little. That's what gets me, when I see the young ones going through what I went through myself. But, you can't raise anybody else's babies! You just take care of home and hope to set an example. It's sooooo good to be back here
