  • I Just Trimmed .5 An Inch Of Hair

When i first B.C.ed i didnt know the basics of manipulating my hair, even with all the advice and good reads here. I REALLY didnt know how to pick my hair. Instead of lifting gently i was raking it through. My thought process was, "This is a pick, not a comb they said on the board that picks are not bad to use "

As time has gone on i've learned not only the info, but the how to and technique that goes with it. So yeah, i ended up taking off .5 an inch to get rid of the shredded ends i had created.

Anyone else found themselves trimming soon after the B.C. to get rid of damage from just not having gotten down proper techique yet?? TIA -- Tryce

Well, I don't trim much. I did my first real trim about 2 weeks ago. I could tell if was softer, but I was skeptic. I put in a post that trims don't help me, but then I thought...."why knock it and you haven't tried it". So, I cut about a half an inch all over and I can tell a difference. Oh yeah, I do remember letting my fiance' cut my hair with the clippers to get rid of the permed ends. But that was about it.

I haven't trimmed my hair since my BC. I don't know anything about my ends. I should confess that I don't even check my hair that much. I condition all the time but I notce that sometimes, I have tangles or knots at the ends of my hair. I just untangle them (dry). I heard (from a natural hairdresser), that I can trim twice a year and that's okay. Maybe I should get a trim but my hair is already pretty soft. Hmmm . . . BTW Tryce, your pictures are really nice

I've trimmed 3 times since my bc in december. it wasn't b/c of damage, however.

Hmmmm, in August in will be two years since I shaved my head down to bald.

Between August '03 and February '03, I used to use wild growth and wonder gro shea butter grease to wear a daily afro. I was so unhappy as in times past because I thought this was it for my hair, the only way to do it until I retained length. ALthough I conditioned well, I was still pulling an afro rake thru my hair and the right side especially suffered because it was so 'hard' and uncombable...so the pick ripped...

I discovered shake and go and no poo around march '03 and although initially I was 'afraid' to wear my hair out due to my own insecurities, eversince that time, I have been 'trying' to be 'good'

Now...I trim like lastnight, when I smooth down my ends as I am applying deep conditioner and I spot a knot or bevy of knots I get my shears and trim. As far as a all over trim, no, because I don't know what I am doing. But this weekend after a good protein treatment and deep conditioner I will continue to 'search' for knots and snip as necessary. Good luck!! WHen I wear my hair out I don't care for evenness, just as long as it is healthy, one day I hope to trust someone enough to inspect my hair and trim as needed, but for now it's on a jointed knot, knotted strand basis that I trim...
