Trubliss, Congratulations to you as well. Sending positive thoughts your way.

Queencece, Divide the 488 by 5 (copies that is). You'd be fine, but it does take some getting used to.

CONGRATULATIONS! That's a huge accomplishment (believe me I know). You've given me the hope I need to get through mine.

I'm currently working on my dissertation on existentialism in art ^_^ . It's probably only interesting to just me but hey. I've been working on this since October of 04 and I'm nowhere near finished---I have until April 06. On top of all this I also have to work on my senior art show. If you can get through with all of THAT (I'm nowhere near 90 pages yet) I'm sure I can survive this.

Congrats Girl!!! So very proud of another sistah doing her thing! I am 2 years into my journey with another few to go in Org Development/Business Psychology, but it is certainly well worth it. It takes so much work and determination to get it done, but you are proof that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

    Go head Dr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hey everyone!

Thank you for the positive words and encouragement. Many congratulations for all those who are on their own journey to Ph.D. land!

Please keep me in your prayers. I defend my proposal this Friday, Sept. 9th at 2:00 pm. I'm ready. I've spent the past couple of weeks clearing my plate and mentally preparing for this day. I've also done a ton of prep work getting my powerpoint presentation in order and rehearsed. The only thing I have scheduled tomorrow is a meeting with my advisor to touch base concerning any last-minute issues. After Friday (assuming I pass), I'll spend the rest of the semester collecting data on campus. THAT will be the fun part!

I'll be sure to let you all know how Friday goes.

Congrats Malissa! You celebrate to your heart's content, girl.

Did you ever say what your topic was? Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be groundbreaking and phenomenal! And if it's not that, just make it good enough to please the committee - LOL

Seriously, that's an accomplishment and you should feel proud.

Thanks everyone! It's hard to describe the relief I feel now that the most difficult part of this process for me is over. I never realized just how stressed I've been having the proposal hanging over my head for literally years. I'm having to learn how to relax again. I suppose that's a good thing. Now that I've defended, my excitement has returned for my study.

The title of my dissertation is, "Understanding the Impact of Relationship Status on the Condom Use of College Students: An Application of the Transtheoretical Model." Here's the abstract...

Numerous researchers have documented that despite knowledge that condoms can prevent the transmission of AIDS during sexual activity, a sizeable portion of college students fail to implement the safer-sex practices regarding condom use recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when they have sexual contact with a partner. Health professionals have sought to apply numerous theoretical frameworks to understand the factors that predict students' condom use and then design programs to promote condom use. One promising framework is the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) of Behavior Change. Although variables currently included in the TTM are related to college students' condom use, its predictive validity is limited. Some research has suggested that the relationship context for sexual activity is an important factor in understanding students' condom use behavior.
The primary purpose of the present study is to determine whether adding relationship context to the TTM model adds to its power in predicting condom use among sexually-active college students. Self-report survey data will be collected from a sample of approximately 300 students. Relationship context and the following key variables from the TTM (a) perceived benefits and costs of condom use, (B) perceived benefits and costs of non-condom use, © self efficacy in use of condoms, and (d) temptations to forgo use of condoms, will be used to used to predict three sexual risk taking outcomes (condom use during last sexual contact, regular use of condoms, and stage of change relative to condom use). It is hypothesized that adding assessment of relationship context into the TTM will significantly improve upon its power to predict sexual risk. The results from this study could prove beneficial in understanding the choices college students make in regard to safer-sex practices and in the development and implementation of safer-sex interventions for college students involved in dating relationships.

How are your journeys going? I'm living proof that you can get through this.
