  • How Do You Feel About Black Women With Blonde Hair?

    ...

Well I can agree that a person's hair should look 'tasteful' or 'good' but I just hate the "dark women can't be platinum' response b/c I think that if a person says "ok black women can/should go blond if they desire' then there shouldn't be a skin color restraint. Quite frankly the deep, ebony, sista w/ platinum hair might be going for that look. I don't know, but I think it can work & it does work sometimes.

It shouldn't be a for yella girls only thing.

I actually prefer darker hair on all women. Sometimes when women dye their hair a shade or two lighter, it may not go well with their skintone.

If these pics are a problem, I'm sure the mods will delete them, but for example Ciara:

She's a pretty girl either way, but to me this particular color doesn't look as nice on her. But I think she looks better like this:

^^^Ciara looks so different in every pic I see her in. I think you've proven the point that not all colours look good on everyone though in this case I think the lipcolour doesn't help things.

As for dark tones not wearing platinum, as my friends said, Sisqo ruined it for errbody.

I personally don't think it's a yella girl thing only. I'm dark skinned and I've had blonde in my hair before. Not the whole thing but it was mixed in and I got a lot of compliments. If you can make any shade look good on your complexion (whatever that may be), that goes for brown, red, orange, blonde, whatever then go for it. But if you end up looking like bozo the clown then you need to rethink your color choice.

I've seen Black people with natural Blonde hair, the aboriginal people of Australia, dark skinned people with African features and straight blonde hair.

I dont like fake straight blonde hair because it looks too artificial, i do like some blonde dye jobs on natural hair, i like Eva Pigford's hair color, and i think that blonde hair CAN look good on Black people.

I don't understand what's so wrong about what she said....

I have a friend who is really attracted to mixed chicks. I think it's because a lot end up with a nice wavy or curly or combination hair texture, which is kind of like his. He once said something along the lines of, "Yeah, with nice medium skin tones, well, not as dark as you...". I wanted to hit him. Why the hang ups? A chick shouldn't have to be light enough to pass for mixed to be attractive. Mind you, I'm pretty $#! medium for a black chick. (He's white btw, but most idiots think he's mixed because of his slight jew fro)

Personally, I hate the stigmas attached to blonde hair. Long before we began dying our hair that color, there were stigmas that whites had attached to the color.(dumb blondes, blondes have more fun, blonde haired, blue eyed, blonde bombshell, etc. ) It had/has become what they deem as beautiful. I guess I pride myself for being the exactly the opposite of what they call beautiful. I love what makes me Black and beautiful. Just my 2

Basically, i just want to get your opinions, do you...

i personally dont think anything of it, but i know that when i dyed my hair almost platinum blonde a year ago... i looked like an idiot. I am fairly light, not mixed or anything.... but light none the less and i looked like an idiot *shakes head*. i wonder what i was thinking then? but it definitely wasnt to look yt, i guess just wanted a dramatic look..... but i had to shave it all off... it was too dramatic for me... lol

I get what you're saying but I think that's a bad picture of Cee's hair with the light hair to begin with. You can see her lace front in the front. Even if the hair was darker in that picture, it'd still look bad, IMO. And the more and more I look at that picture, that blonde is too light on her. That's blonder than she usually wears her hair. I hope that's why she never wore that shade anymore. It's not flattering. Here's a better picture of her with the lighter hair from when she first came out in 2004:

I like this color on her. That's the color she wore for most of her first album.

I've never been a fan of blond hair on black women, but some people really know how to pull it off. I personally would never have blond hair myself (I've had a few bad episodes with just bleaching to dark red, no telling what would happen if I went blond), but if another sister wants to do it and picks a flattering shade, more power to her.

i had a light blonde hair for a while. i'd never do it again because i didnt look right with it. i looked ok but i look better with darker hair IMO. i just did it cus i was bored and have never been blonde and was interested to see what i'd look like. i didnt have more fun though

my pet peeves of black women with blonde hair are when the colors are just too brassy and scream "i'm from a box applied by someone who didnt know what she was doing because there wasnt near enough lift" and when people don't know when it's time to cut off the broken and uneven ends from using bleach and not enough moisture.

as for ciara.. she looks better with darker hair IMO, same as beyonce

I don't really like blond hair on black women...esp. when it's really long and super str8. Now a suitable blonde in some highlights is cool if u can pull it off but I'm not feeling the full on blonde thing. I've always liked darker colors of hair cuz I'm simple and don't like much attention to myself...but if u bold enuff then whatever. Don't be mad if u end up lookin like u got beat by Clorox gloves tho...

I also think Asian with blond hair look kinda weird too...but that's cuz I'm used to seeing them wit black hair. I also think black women with stick str8 Asian looking black hair down their black looks weird to me too...cuz it clearly looks fake. But whatever...what u eat don't make me ish...

Its not exactly what you requested, but it's close i think. The images are of Aboriginal people of Australia, though, now to find this outside of Australia

I am not a fan of Black women with blonde hair. I think that it just looks to fake!! I don't mind a light brown, auburn, or colors that help to ehnance a woman's beauty.

I'm actually not a huge fan of blond hair on black women of any shade, but I brought up the skin color pointedly b/c I think that it can look equally good or equally bad on a women regardless of skin color. It kinda depends on what look the woman's going for. That's all I was trying to say. Of course a person has to consider shade of hair/skin, but that's regardless of skin color.

You don't understand what's wrong? Ok... let me break it down...

First of all, she's a teacher, not an image consultant. She should not be talking about her tan. Iocare, how great she is w/ the PTA. The heffa is off-task. She does not get a gold star. Instead she gets a letter home & an "N" under conduct & common-damn-sense.

Secondly she's an adult. It is her JOB, literally, to use common sense. She should know that in a country built of race-based servitude she can not fly off the hip talking about "no too dark" in a way that implies "not too black". If she does not know, fire her. I don't tolerate bad teachers. I think more of black youth than that.

Let me know if I can answer any more questions. But my central point is that the students should not be placed in a position to "understand" the teacher's tanning needs; her racial acceptance should be w/o question and her statement puts that in doubt.

I think if you asked the OP's darker friend who was sitting right next to her when the teacher said that I'm sure she could tell you what was wrong with it.

And hey I don't know but even when it comes to clothes some colors just aren't so complimentary together no matter what the complimentary color wheel says . That's how I feel about black women and blond hair. It's only happens once a blue moon when it actually looks 'right' and even then it's only decent. I don't think anyone here is trying to make it out like 'oh it's only for light-skinned black women cause they're special' and I don't think that anyone is saying we should all look alike either (not to mention that would be almost impossible anyway even if we all had jet black hair). It's just a matter of opinion...nobody's going to ban darker women from buying blonde color or call the hair color police....not even on those women who like to wear red and purple in their hair

Its hard for me to imagine that a black woman (unless they are in australia) would dye their hair blonde to look natural. I think women dying their hair is a form of them expressing their personal style they feel like it looks good;or at least to themselves they look good with their blonde hair.

Yeah...I never thought of that. When you put it in that context, that's probably one of the worst things that a teacher could say in front of a young girl to hurt her self esteem.

Not crazy about blonde hair on black women. It just looks fake to me. There have been some exceptions though.

Same goes for bottle blonde hair on white women, it's just a very played-out look IMO.

I also think Asian with blond hair look kinda weird...

They were talking about this on Tyra one day. They were doing a special on race and color, etc. And there was an asian girl up there with blonde hair and one without and they were talking about it. She said she didn't want to look like a FOB (Fresh off the Boa) and the blonde assimilated her more into American culture. It looked a HAM if you ask me. They were pulling people out the audience to comment too.

plenty of natural blonds in Australia and the Pacific Islands surrounding it (papua new guinea, solomon islands...)

...i will let this quote answer what i feel about black women with 'unatural' blonde hair:
Beauty is about perception, not about make-up. I think the beginning of all beauty is knowing and liking oneself. You can't put on make-up, or dress yourself, or do you hair with any sort of fun or joy if you're doing it from a position of correction.

Personally, I think it would look good for style reasons along with a funky hairstyle. I've worn blonde and had people tell me it looked natural on me, I have blonde body hair on parts of my body and people have asked if it were natural, of course, it was like a honey blonde, not platinum. I also purposely grew my roots out a little bit to make it look more natural, not one solid color. But I like it if it's kind of short and spiky or dreaded, but I don't like long straight hair.

As for the comment about my 'dark-skinned' classmate(not friend my any means), she wasn't the type of girl that would easily get hurt, well, at least show it, but I thought she was a pretty girl. Of course, she had a stank attitude, but anyways, I forgot what we were talking about that day. I think it had something to do with people in different countries or something and she brought that up.

The contrast of that blonde hair with chocolate skin is so beautiful to me. But only when natural and subtle like their natural colors in the pictures above..not this nasty fake mustard yellow looking, down to their butt fake blonde these celebrities wear, UGGGH!!

I think blonde dreadlocks look cool on both black and white people. There is a black woman on www.dreadheadhq.com with platinum blonde locks, she's a little dark, and they look really cute on her. Also, I think it's HOW you wear it also.
