  • How Do You Feel About Black Women With Blonde Hair?

I really don't care about it now. Blond highlights look alright on most black folks, full head blonds look too fake to me. The platinum blonds are more for a dramatic effect. I like them when the hair is really short.

My aunt has long blond hair and it looks fantastic on her. I can't imagine her with any other color.

I agree; I traveled to Brazil this summer with a group of white folks, and one time they they were talking amongst themselves about the attractiveness of the people. A few of them agreed that they liked tan skin, but not "that" tan....in other words, the folks had a little too much African in the mix...

I WANT to believe that it is simply a poor fashion choice most of the time. But i've seen the other type too. The sister with platinum locks, coloured contacts & the whole bit.....it makes me say and nothing more. I'm sure they looked in a mirror before I saw them...

Natural blonde hair on a Black person is easy to stomach even if surprising...especially when it exists in so many of our families.

I think that a woman SHOULD be able to die her hair any colour at all as long as she isn't in denial of what truly IS.

I don't like how it looks on SOME women...I've seen some with a nice honey or dark blonde that looked okay. Then I've seen some with platinum blonde, which I don't like because I think it makes them look older. Take Eve, for instance. I was flipping through Ebony magazine and there was a short article about her. I didn't even know it was her at first! I thought it was an older woman! And even Mary J. Blige...some of the blonde color she wears makes her look older.

I've seen someone with platinum or very light blonde hair from the back and thought they were white, and when they turned around, I was surprised to see it was a Black woman (I guess I'm not used to seeing Black women with hair THAT light)!

I also don't like the blond extensions. I have nothing against extensions, but if the hair looks cheap and fake combined with a blond color that looks like the color of margarine or Ronald McDonald's yellow clown suit, then it really looks tacky (to ME).

    But to each her own...

I also don't like the blond extensions. I have nothing...

I cringe everytime I see some women with the extensions that look like a Barbie doll's hair.

Because of genetics there are several individuals in my family who have "blonde/brown" hair and "red" hair. They don't have a choice. They don't try to highlight the color or enhance it because it is usually has a "wiry" texture. I think some people of color look nice with lighter colored hair...I think its the neon blue, pink and green that make me go ummmmm!

Well I have never questioned a black womans choice to go blonde unless her skin is real dark and her hair is platinum.

The last time I had color in my hair was in high school and since then I stopped coloring because it was to damaging on the hair and yeah in the back of my mind...color was not natural. That was then and this is now.....I got bored after shaving my hair off and felt that if I didn't like the color on me, I could always cut the 1/4 of an inch hair off and start a new. The color only grew on me and now I am thinking, how could I go back to black. It was a styling and personal decision for me, it isn't because I am trying to be something I'm not. Furthermore, coloring your hair is legal.

I think natural platinum blonde on white people looks cool. I don't see that type of natural blond everyday. I think platinum is the most striking if it's natural.

yeah, but other than that, I think it's overrated.

White people have an obsession with it because it's that beauty standard again. People want to look as white as possible. For white people, blondes are like 'pure' white people. Every culture suffers from a beauty standard.

i personally like colors that enhance someone's hair and beauty. but when i see platinum blonde on wrecked hair from 30 feet away i get the look. i've had honey blonde highlights wayyyy back in the day but you could tell it wasnt my hair lol but i wore it, it didnt wear me. then i see some colors, for example i saw some random person's fotki and her hair was this...i dont even think this color was found in nature and i thought eeeeuw.

but i hate seeing blonde or any color on hair that's damaged, fried dyed and laid to the side.

Having been a beautician, I've seen women that can pull it off and other women that look crazy as hell.

And for those chocolate-complected women as myself wearing full blonde;..........they look absolutely R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S!!!!!!!! point.blank.

I've known people who look good with blond hair but I have see those who look like they just went into the witness protection program (like lil kim, puff daddy's mom janice and that ugly wig, sorry i lost it for a moment). But I just know for me i wouldn't look right. When I had red hair it was fierce but when I went back to my natural black hair it was better I got more compliments.

After going back to my natural black hair I asked myself why the hell did I dye my hair (i guess I wanted a change) but when I looked in the mirror I saw just how beautiful my natural hair color was. I am light skinned and I have jet black hair like my mother and it just is nice contrast to my skin and I never realized it.

Black hair is just as pretty as blond but I prefer natural

I say do you. Yes some women go blond & it's not the right color for them, but the same can be said for any color. My mon wears her hair blond. . .and she WEARS it! I wish I had a picture, but i can't find one!

I have yet to see blond hair on a Black woman that looked better than their dark brown or black hair. It doesn't look good on most White women natural blond or not so, I cannot for the life of me figure out why Black women would do this (and some Black men). It does not compliment our features in the least. Same goes for Julia Roberts when she did it, Nicole Kidman both horrible looking with blond hair.

I am not a fan of blonde on black women but I have to give it to Kim Fields her blonde locks are slammin. IA with most stated on this thread it depends on your tone and characteristics. When I was in nursing school. A fellow student had the unmitigated gall to put blonde color in her hair and she was very dark. She looked like a clown for real. It did nothing for her at all. It looked projectish!

I think women dye their hair for different reasons. We seek what we lack some of us want long straight hair we either buy it or perm it too death. Since the color blonde is the epitome of being white it sparks such controversy when non whites wear the color. So it is easy to assume anyone other than anglo saxons are trying to emulate toward being white or something which may never be the case!!!!

when I was blonde, it matched my skin tone... I don't feel that she is passin' for yt.... I think she's just expressing herself... been there and done that ( wouldn't go there again though)

i've rocked numerous colors from black to different shades of red to my current state of light golden blonde/bronze (whatever). I've cringed at some platinum blonde dye jobs. I feel mine is complimentary to my skintone... I've been coloring my hair since the 11th grade and I see it as another styling choice no more, no less. No deep down feelings of resentment for my race or wanting to be like YT. If it looks good on me I'm gonna rock it.
Let em do what they do if they like it...

Aww man, yall should see my aunt with her short sassy blonde cut, she looks fierce! She's a tad bit yellow complected, but nonetheless, i think darker women look fly with the lighter hair too...just depends on the shade of blonde you chose for yourself to match your skin if you're gonna go with it.

But the only thing I hate is when these black women have these SO OBVIOUSLY FAKE, long azz blonde weaves all the way down their backs. I mean, CORNY! (cough cough beyonce, cough cough serena, cough cough mary j blige, cough cough lil kim, should I go on?)... uggh. Friggin barbie wannabes. Not cute. At all.

I think the only people who can really pull it off are people who's natural hair color is a light brown or sandy brown, I do think blonde highlights look nice on them. Someone like Queen Latifah could pull it off. I also think it looks ok on Vanessa Williams. Eve looks horrible in all shades of blonde to me. Kim Fields looks washed out with blonde because it matches her skin color. If someones natural hair color is dark, blonde just doesn't look well on them to me, it looks so fake.

it's like when some dye their hair pitchblack. im like, um euw? *some* people it can look nice on, but not everyone. my hair is dark brown, but can look darker if i oiled it very well, which was why id always been on the fence about highlighting or hennaing my hair, because i think my natural color suits me very well. when i saw a picture of my blonde highlights when i was in high school i was like GOOD LAWWWWWWWWWD lol ill never do that again! it was cute but didnt look natural.

but i used to be enthralled with all things mariah carey and i wanted hair just like her, the texture and color.

i loves what i have now!

^^^My mom dyed her hair jetblack and I swear she looked like a black (no pun untended) version of Rosario from Will and Grace.

Last winter, I saw a metro cop rocking a TWA with different shades of light gold honey and it looked gorgeous. My sister who's a few shades lighter than I am has a nice golden blond that I find looks good on her, pretty close to what Eve wears (and I do think that Eve rocks the blond except for the straw coloured weave she did once). I want to lighten my hair but I will be careful to avoid Diddy's mom's look (though in the latest Essence there's an ad for exactly that if you want it and the sister is a nappy too). I'm bored with my natural dark brown hair (not the one in my avatar that's "Sun Kissed Brown" #378 by D&L, pretty close to how my hair looks after months in the sun back when I was a kid), I've done different shades of red before so now I'm going for a of light gold brown.

I personally don't like blonde hair on most black women....

    ITA!

The other day I saw a dark-skinned sista, a permie, with short, cropped?, blonde hair. It looked great.

ETA: So it sounds like the consensus is that black woman can have blond as long as the hair isn't too blond & her skin isn't too black. <_<

I would say that the consensus is that she can have blonde hair if she finds the right shade that suits her.

Well I have been blonde before and I looked damn good with it. I have rocked all sorts of colors but I choose colors that look good with my skin tone. I feel as long as it compliments you skin tone then go for it. I didn't dye my hair that color to be white or something I wasn't. I did it because I liked the color.

I think it looks beautiful on Black women who were born with it.

I do not like how it looks on any Black woman who wasnt born blonde.

Dying your hair blonde and being natural seems to be a contradiction because bleaching your hair is just as damaging as relaxing it.
