  • Help It Never Grows

I don't know why, but my hair never grows. First off, my hair is like the SUPER-SOFT-ALWAYS FRIZZY-CAN'T HOLD A CURL type of hair. When I was in High School I locked it hoping to end my length-challeged tresses. Of course it grew, but my locks were so thin that I cut them off about a year ago. I been wearing it natural ever since (braids and coils) and it's still short. Any ideas on what products I should use? What should I do? Because I'm at a TOTAL lost !

Wow, well, I dont know what to tell ya.

I mean, if it is moisturized, cleaned, and healthy then it should grow and probably does grow.

Maybe you need a healthier diet? More water? Protective styles?

No products will make your hair grow but can help only a little by stimulating the scalp. If you do a search you can find out what other members are using. I am not sure what it is.

Just to add to button's suggestions:

do you get any vigorous exercise?

Could you have any condtion that affects your hormones, such as PCOS. That can affect hair growh.

One thing that can stimulate follicles is rosemary essential oils. You could try diluting with jojoba oil.

Well, you say it's only been a year. If you...

I was just about to say this. What is your regular routine right now? what products do you use? what tools do you use on your hair?

Try very little manipulation. It might seem like it's not growing but it probably is.

I agree with what the rest of these ladies are saying. Give it sometime.

Right now I wash it with Dr. Bonner's Peppermint or Lavendar Castile soaps. I going to try moisterizing it more. I've never really taking the time to really take care of my hair before. I just kept it in a short cut because it was convient and when it's short my hair had a cute lil curl going on. My current routine for styling is going to the beauty palor every two weeks for coils, but I'm not sure if I want to lock. Maybe I should get some braids

That right there is the problem. You didn't really take time to care for your hair so you didn't see any growth. I'm sure that wth care and time you will see growth.

And yes, do moisturize! It's essential!

My hair and my nails grow super fast. Im not sure why but these things are constant....

I drink lots of water EVERY day
My dairy intake is high, milk, yogurt, cheese...not suitable for everyone depending on their diet, religion etc.

I take vitamins, regular Jamison brand. Ask your doc and find one thats right for you otherwise consult naturopath or alternative source.

Protein intake is high ....meat, fish, chicken... consult your physician.
This works for me hope it helps.

I let my hair breathe in the day and cover at night...when I feel like it :P
No grease with mineral oil petrolatum as main ingredient
    Easy on the hair products
No dry coming...use hands or fingers to manipulate hair. I pick it out when its wet or moist only.

Well first off...you have to have proof of your hair not growing. I think it's impossible for it not to grow (good news) but it may be getting damaged faster than its growing (bad news). Do you see lots of hair all over when you wash or when detangling? Are you noticing places that your hair that are breaking (some parts are dramatically shorter than others)?
Also you might want to go ahead and do a photo documentary so to speak. It might just be that you can't see it growing because the difference from 3 inches to 3.5 inches is so subtle especially on nappy hair.

I bet your just freaking out about not seeing the growth but its def growing. Patience.

How often do you deep condition?

do you tie your hair up at night?

Lol i know, i lot of questions. But we just tryna help you

I don't know why, but my hair never grows. First...

My hair grows best when I leave it alone and when I don't wash too often. Even though I also use Dr. Bronner's, I still don't wash too often -- just once a month. I rinse with water everyday to help deter any product build up - and spary with a glycerin/jojoba oil/water mix as needed for moisture. I also use shea butter spraingly on occasion.

I did the BC in April 2005 -- started with about 1/2 inch of hair and have clipped once and my hair is long enough to box braid (i would twist or coil but my hair is awfully soft so I will have to wait for some more length for that)

My current routine for styling is going to the beauty...

What do you mean? Comb coils? If that's what you're doing, then you may want to take a second look at it. I used to do that to my own hair for a little while and my edges started breaking. And rattail combs have numerous teeth so it could be causing breakage other than just edges, too. It may not be the culprit but I think it's a good place to start.]

Then there's shrinkage. It's not a culprit; just a reality. It may be a while before you see how much your hair has grown without stretching it.

Just enjoy what you have now and maybe you'll get to your desired length one day.

Hair doesn't stop growing unless you are dead. Maybe it's breakage. Or maybe shrinkage is confusing u. Maybe it's both.

If your hair grew while in locks, then you know that it grows. The problem is that it is breaking off.

Try some hair strengthening products - aphogee protein for damaged hair and henna are examples

stop manipulating your hair too much. many protective styles require dry combing-> contributing to hair loss!
cover your hair when you sleep
learn the difference between breakage and shedding (you'll see a little white bulb) and stop doing anything that causes breakage

you could grow your hair out in locs again so that it is a length that makes it easier to do protective styles without manipulation and then unravel the locs instead of cutting them out
