What would you like to know about Germany? It is pretty large and with some many different areas.

Overall it is a nice country to visit, the people are friendly and the food is tasty. You have two seas, North and East which you can visit. When shopping it is not much cheaper than the US.

Berlin is a nice city, some people like to stick to the west side but that is a shame because the east has a lot of offer. In fact I enjoyed it more than the west. While there I did a walking-tour which was well worth it. you can still see bullet holes from WWII, the place where Hitlers bunker stood and the place him and Eva were burned at.

I lived in Germany for almost 4 years now in the military. I loved it. Like Redpand79 says. Wha do you want to know. I live in Heidelberg, Germany. Its a beautful tourist town. Summer time is the best time but winter isnt so bad. I dislike snow. The food is more rich than the states and the people are generally friendly. Let me know what you need.

For a general overview, check out this site--just click on the links for Germany and Poland at the top of the page. Some of it is tongue and cheek, but most is just very good information!

I visited Poland a few years ago (just Krakow and Auschwitz)... sadly it was before I was trying to do the travel writing thing and my boyfriend at the time was super nosy so I didn't take notes or write in a journal. The only thing I really remember is that it was inexpensive and that I had never been stared at so much in my entire life!! Some teacher even pointed me out to her class of kids in the street. There was no outward hatefulness, just the staring.

I would really like to see this forum blow up, but in the meantime if your sister is really concerned, you guys might want to check out Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree Forum

LOL this is what my sister is afraid of the staring. She is also a bit leary about the cusine as well. The areas you mentioned is where she is traveling to. Glad to hear that its inexpensive. Thanks for the link.

I lived in Germany for six months. I lived in the bavaria area (southern). The land itself is beautiful but I don't like the people. I was in Regensburg. A small city but very nice. Some people never saw a black person before in person. So they will stare a lot. It surprises me because black people live in Germany. I went to a restaurant with my friends and one white child screamed "Oh WOW-- look-- she's black!" Everyone thought it was cute. I found it sad. Overall, Germany is clean and the environment is awesome and can be breathtaking. I just don't like the people.
