glycerin has to be mixed with something, especially if you are using it on your hair. i would suggest mixing it with water or aloe vera juice or something...

yup what ms gg said. I love glycerin, but I live in a very cold state and will probably leave my glycerin alone until it gets warmer. Just started experimenting with lanolin and I love how it makes my hair feel and it moisturizes and seals at the same time.

I never heard of the bolded until I joined hair boards. I"m old school and remember the curly perms or jheri curls when people used glycerin all year round with no problem ( at least not a glycerin related problem).

Yes you can mix it with wather and other essential oils. For an 8 oz bottle of spritz mix 7 oz water 1 oz of glycerin and 8 to 10 drops of vanilla or lavendar oil shake it up and you have your own healthy mix. To make a hair smoothie you can add coconut oil, glycerin, vit e oil, jojoba oil and olive oil. Melt in microwave for 1 min, stir, harden you then have a natural hair oil combo mix which should last a while...

Diane: I haven't had a problem using glycerin, I LOVE IT, but my issue is due to me doing my hair the last minute before i walk out the door. The last time I worked, the temperature was -14 degrees Fahrenheit with a high of 4 and from my door to my car my hair was crispity crunchity! The water had frozen on my hair and I had only spritzed it lightly, AND I was wearing my bonnet! I just didn't like the way my hair felt and it only got better about 10 minutes after I got to work.

Anyone know where I can get some glycerin? What exactly does it do? And I'm assuming it's not necessarily for cold months?

Yo can get it from a drugstore, grocery store, healthfood store or online. It is a humectant--It draws moisture from the air and keeps it close to your hair making it soft. You can try making a water (and/or aloe vera) spritz with it, adding it to shea butter and/or mixing it into leave ins.

You could try Whole Foods they should have 100% pure Vegetable glycerine.

Would it be in the aisle with the vitamins, or among the hair supplies?

I put coconut oil on my hair a few days ago and it was just as cold outside, and that didn't happen to me. Do you mix your oil with water or other oils? Maybe that's why it didn't freeze on me like that.

No I didn't mix with water but these natural oils have a tendency to sit on top of my hair anyway.
