  • Giving Up Flesh..

    Peace Sistas.
I don't know if this should be put somewhere else, but I am really trying to rid my appetite of flesh... the craving seems stronger now that I am beginning to stray away from it than it did when I was swallowing that crap whole!

    (^Me)(^Flesh)

I want to start my first fast to cleanse myself... specifically, a fruit fast (or) to go from a fruit/veggie diet to a h2o/natural juice fast. I want to do so without going crazy, if possible. it is and has been extremely difficult for me thanks to all the tv ads at work, and "soul food" cooked in this house....... to not crave the garbage anymore. I don't know what's happening.. when I eat chicken.. because this is what I have narrowed my flesh consumption to, it has no taste... and I hate the way I feel afterwards I think the goal of eating flesh is to get "full"... or get to the point to where you can barely breathe as you walk.

I want to not eat flesh and be physically and mentally content with what my body is digesting. (only fools..are full)

ARGHHH I need some advice!!! How did you LET GO of Flesh... mentally and physically? Please help me heal myself with your experiences...

    Peace, Love, Respect

I'm waiting for a reply too, cuz I'm thinking about giving up meats if/when I get enough money to buy my own foods and cook it myself Lord Willing.

I think each person's experience of giving up meat is different so I can only talk through my experience... I think its not just a physical process of re-learning how to eat, but also a spiritual one where we learn to let go....

After a tough year 2003, I decided that this year was one to start taking natural health to another level... so it was very easy to stop eating meat... almost an overnight thing. I definately did have the cravings for it, especially as the people I live with need meat in almost every meal... but when I started going out shopping for meat alternatives, I saw that there were plenty options out there ...take a trip to your health shop and get experimenting! I actually enjoy cooking now that I have been experimenting on new ways to eat...

A few other mind-sets have changed since becoming vegeterian.... I value each meal more, 'eat to live' instead of 'live to eat' and I make each meal a ritual time of love. My health is also better since I have started my new eating habits.

You'll get some really good tips and advice from many of the members here....

Although no meat has touched my lips in almost 2 months i'm still struggling. I gave up all meat except fish back in dec if 2003 and finally gave up fish 2 months ago.

I also crave the fullness of meat. But i'm trying to get my mindset right so that i realized that it's not necessarily a good thing to be so full you dont' feel like moving. that's what i was raised to believe, so i'm still struggling with that.

the smell of most meats turn my stomach now. only the smell fo chicken tempts me now. But i just remind myself of how much better i feel when i'm not eating meat and my reasons for giving it up an i can get past those moments.

although i allow my son to eat meat, i no longer buy it or cook it at home for him. if he eats meat, it's from daycare or family. it's just easier for me not to have it accesible for me.

i too, am searching for other ways to recondition my thinking on food. cuz sometimes i overindulge on non-meats. like breads and some snacks.

One thing that helps ALOT is reading up on other alternatives to meat. and trying new recipies.

I was a veggie for a year and it was easy cause I thought about what I was digesting but I went bak to being a omnivore because I could not afford the things I needed to maintain this lifestyle.. while I know what the meat does to me I still will eat veggie meals before meat ones ....What I mean by not being able to afford it is that the meatless meat products like Morning star and Boca, Gardenburger and others are ultra expensive and on a BCS budget (brokecollegestudent) is very taxing. Your journey should focus on gaining and not losing...my trick for not going back when I was a strict one was to look at a plate of food and think ----ooh! 3 out 4 things I eat....like a plate of chicken, greens, mac and cheese, and corn ....I can eat a majority of the plate....salad become a canvass of ideas, by sprucing up a salad it will turn into a meal...and remember Oneblood don't focus on leaving things behind but gaining new things ahead....HTH
