  • Eeek,i Was Over Latchin

So recently I have been simply latchin my new growth with my fingers. Could this be the reason for the funky holes? I didn;t really have them when using the latch hook. Help, how can I right my wrongs????

it sounds like you've been latching in one direction, creating the effect of a hole. close it up by latching through the hole. i hope that makes sense.

Awwww Toy,you always come thru for us,but shoot,I don't get it. What I did do this mornin, was to back pull the locs back thru,so the hole isn't prominent. Should i just go back to the hook?I also didn't know I should latch in more than one direction. Help.......

You might be able to smooth out that hole with your fingers or use a hook to pierce through the opposite direction and close it up.

Going forward, you might want to checkout Rockinlocs' book or www.naani.com for some advanced or basic instructions on latching, respectively.

After you've done that, when you sit down to retighten your hair, regardless of the chosen tool, you should always ensure thay you can't pull your locs through 2 directions. If you can't do that 2nd direction with your fingers, get a tool to do it. Some people "latch" (crochet/sisterlocks/etc.) in 2, 4, 6, and even 8 directions. The way to avoid holes is to make sure you at least do an even number of directions at any one sitting.

i had that same problem when i used to latch. i was so scared when i saw the holes, i thought i had ruined my locs. i quickly learned to not go through the same hole twice, if that makes any sense. but just follow beryl's explanation. i recovered, and you will too.
