  • Does Anyone Not Clarify......

I no poo and love it. When I first started to no poo I didn't like it at all, I had lots and lots of product buildup. Well now I've got the hang of it and have had no problems whatsoever. But, I don't clarify. I use to, but it really didn't do anything for me, so now I don't. And I haven't had any buildup at all or itchy scalp. My routine is really simple:

    No poo twice a week
Once out of the shower I put jojoba and coconut oil on my hair
    Add some aloe vera gel
    Voila!!

During the week I keep my hair in two cornrows, military lady here, and spritz with a jojoba/water mix before I tie it down for the night. On the weekends, once I get out the shower and put the oils and aloe vera in I let it do what it wants.

So I say again, I don't clarify. Is that strange? Does anyone else not clarify? Be gentle.....pleeeeeez

I can go up to 4 weeks w/o clarifying but after a while, my hair feels oily and gets itchy.

If you feel no discomfort and your hair is clean, then no problems. Just keep doing what you feel is best for your hair. You dont *have* to do anything you dont need to your hair.

I try to keep things as simple as possible.

If buildup and itchy scalp isn't a problem for you, then stick with it. The products that you're using are light anyway.

    I don't clarify, but then again, I don't do the no-shampoo method.

I low-poo: I shampoo when I need to, which usually is abt every 2-3 weeks, so I don't need to clarify b/w conditioner washes

Don't feel bad if ur routine is working for u. You're lucky u don't get buildup or itchy scalp

I have never clarified but then again I don't have build up, as the young lady said above do what works for your hair.

Do what works for YOU! Only YOU know what is good for YOUR hair...

Nope. I don't clarify either. I've never had a problem with buildup or anything like that either.

well even if your hair appears clean and itch free you could still be dealing with bacteria. conditioner isn't going to rid your scalp and hair of residue and oil. if i were you i'd atleast clarify once a month or something to ensure that your hair is clean.

What products do we use that could cause bacteria, I love to learn all I can. I do not use creamy conditioner and I no longer oil my scalp. I wash every Sunday, how can this happen??

i dont think it's the products that cause bacteria. there's bacteria everywhere regardless. i would think that if you don't properly cleanse your scalp with some kind of shampoo (or clarifier if you no poo) that the dirt and sebum build-up can harbor bacteria.

i don't clarify either- never felt the need to. I shampoo weekly and no poo on the other 6 days of the week. Only time i get itchies is when i'm in styles where i can't co wash daily.

I don't clarify either. I haven't in months and months. The times when I do clarify I use a clarifying conditioner by Vo5 but only when I had like products in my hair and since I rarely use products, I don't feel the clarify that often. However I do think if you use products on a regular basis you should clarify every now and then.

No. I don't think not clarifying makes you "bad." Sometimes I clarify for product build-up, but most of the time, it's a mental thing. I wouldn't give this too much thought if your routine is working for you already. Don't fix it if it ain't broken.
