  • Crayon/Pencil to cover grays

Is there any one out there using a crayon or pencil to cover stubborn grays hair along their hairline?

My locs are only three months old. Prior to having them I would color my hairline every 4 to 6 weeks. However, now the dye does not seem to be working as well. I am afraid of to try dying my hair every two weeks in order to cover the gray hairs. I know that the crayon/pencil can be washed out every evening when you cleanse your face, but has anyone encountered any other problems? I don't want to build up in my locs.

Why don't you go to a professional and get your entire head dyed with a permanent or semi-permanent color?

I use a crayon called "Cover Gray" at the line where the dye and the gray meet. I have to apply it almost every day, but it works. I buy mine in the beauty-supply store. You can also get it in bulk on Amazon.

    Chachadiva,

My sisterlocs are three months old and not fully loc'd. I have not had good experiences with "professionals" in my city, which is why I have always done my own hair. I need to ask another sister w/locs and get a referral if she uses a professional. Also, I don't want my whole head dyed, I don't mind some gray. Looks more natural to me.

straightnochaser, I have seen these and wondered if they worked. Guess I will invest a couple of dollars and give it a try. When and if I decide to dye my whole head it will be in the spring/summer for that fresh pop of color. However, along my hairline the color wears out faster and I would rather maintain w/a pencil or crayon instead of trying to dye it every 4/6 weeks. Thanks
