I am real "J" right now, but your hair looks real good.

My mom can cornrow the He!! out of some hair. I wish I had inherited her talent. I am so "hairdo challenged".

Thanks everyone !! Man... My hair is insanely THICK so finally learning to cornrow is gonna really make keeping up with it easier as it grows out. What helped me out was not looking at myself in the mirror as i braid it. I would look in the mirror to make my parts, then hold the rest of the hair i wasnt working with to the side with a duckbill clip and i would just start braiding.

I have no idea how i suddenly 'got it'. I've been trying to learn to cornrow forever but it never clicked for me. Yesterday i just started braiding and it looked like cornrows so i was like, "hmmm.. keep going i think these are gonna be REAL cornrows "

    Thanks again everyone -- Tryce

Congrats girl!! I swear the learning to cornrow hurdle is a big one in the nappy journey. I was practicing on my friend's head the other night. I think I've got it, so I'm gonna try some on my head this weekend. I just figured out how to flat twist recently, so this is just the next step. Your hair looks great! Go you, go you, go you, go you...!!

    YAY for you!!!

Gurl, I know how you feel. The day I learned to cornrow it changed my life.

Just a brief word of caution, when I first learned how to cornrow I was so excited I was doing it all the time. After a whill I did start to see some breakage. So enjoy but remember moderation.

YAY for you!!! * * Gurl, I know how...

Thanks for the warning-- I'm about to turn into a natural hair slug with these cornrows. I think i'm gonna do them every other week, doing out styles to give my hair a break on alternating weeks. I'm so glad to finally have more variety in my hair life !!! -- Tryce

my hair is thick and dense and very coily. Do you think id have to blow mines out to acheive this style?

my hair is thick and dense and very coily. Do...

Not at all, my hair is way coily as well. If i were you i would use duckbill clips (you can get them at the beauty suppy store) to hold the hair on the side that you havent braided yet, while you work on each braid. That's what i used to keep my hair out of the way .

Also the hair in the back you can either do twists on them (to stretch them out) then undo the twists or do little individual braids back there and undo them for the same stretched out effect on your fro in the back. I actually didnt do either to the back though. I just wet it a little with some water then slowly and gently picked it out. HTH -- Tryce

It takes years to learn how to cornrow? That is so discouraging.

^ It doesn't have to, I've been cornrowing my own hair since my early teens and it didn't take years of practice. Having the cornrow queen for a mom does help though .

    ...

It doesn't take years. It definitely took me maybe a months time, at the most. I have problems cornrowing my own hair though. Some places are just too hard to reach and put my hands in the most awkward and uncomfortable positions.
