  • Biotin - Causing Acne?

I thought that Biotin was supposed to help with acne (its a hair, skin and nails stimulator). It's grown my hair like weed in the past few months during my transitioning. But, I only now realize tonight that maybe.. just maybe.. it may be the cause for my sudden outbreak of severe acne on my already acne scarred face.

Is this possible? Has anyone had this experience? Do tell.

    Thanks

I think so too. I take it along with msm, silica and an omega complex. I realised that when I took those alone, my skin was okay but when I added the biotin my sebum production increased and my breakouts were more severe. How many mg per tablet are you taking?

    Hi..
I am not home right now, but I don't think I'm mistaken - its 5,000 mg and I take one at evenings and a "one a day" in the mornings. How much is yours?

I'm taking Biotin and my acne isn't any worse than it was before. I read somewhere that you should only be taking 5000 mcg per day(you may want to research this). I take one 2500 mcg per day as directed on my GNC brand.

I've been taking biotin in 1000 mcg for about a month, and the minor breakouts I've had are due to my consumption of soda and other bad stuff (I'm trying hard to break the habit). The research I've done on biotin mentions that it's good for hair and hair growth and it aids in skin as well as the metabolism of carbs, protein, and fats. I don't think the biotin is doing any harm to my skin.

Thanks for all your response. Perhaps I am taking too much Biotin - I need to research this. But, although it did well for me hair, I'm gonna stop for a while until I find out whether it is in fact the cause of my outbreak of acne.

    Thanks again..

    ...

For a while I was taking two 1000mcg pills of biotin but I've since stopped. I haven't taken them in a while because the multivitamin I'm currently taken has 30 mg of biotin in it. Even though the biotin was helping me with my metabolism, I think now that it was causing me to break out. So for now I've stopped taking it. I'll probably take at least 3 biotin pills a week and see how it goes. I'm now taking 1000 mg of MSM and so far both my hair and skin are responding well.

I've noticed that when I started taking Hair/Skin/Nails Vitamins, I've started to breakout as well (The white pusey kind of pimples) and the amount of Biotin in it is 1250mcg (Its really supposed to be 2500 mcg but I don't take 2 capulets a day, I just take one). I just started taking these like almost a week ago. But I've noticed I broke out as soon as I took them. The break outs aren't hideous, and I put some Tea Tree Oil on them yesterday and they have gone down a little overnight. So I'll just keep putting Tea Tree Oil on them two times a day and we'll see what happens. But hey, maybe it's not the Biotin? lol

I'm soo glad I found this thread. I was taking some GNC Hair, Skin and Nails vitamins that contained a high amount of Biotin. I noticed that whenever I took them, my face would break out...and I rarely have breakouts. I've since stopped using it, and the breakouts have stopped. Up until now, I thought I was the only one with this problem. I thikn I was stick with a regular multi-vitamin for general overall good health.

biotin screwed my skin up, as well as GNC's hair skin and nails

I stick to MSM and omega complex

I've barely had acne as a teen and now as an adult, all of a sudden these HUGE weird pimples started appearing on my face. I think it's the Biotin also. I will stop taking it and see what the results are. I took one 1000mcg twice a day

Interesting how something that they claim helps with acne might very well be causing acne.

    bump

Thinking of trying, but I've figured out how to keep acne under control and don't need any added issues <_<

ETA: Before trying this or any other supplement, I'm going to try some other natural remedies (Moe's Growth Oil for starters) first to see how that works. Need to do some more research first

Yes - pls do your research. What works for me may not for you and vice versa. Biotin, is in fact, a great supplement, however it was not for me. Since my post, I never did revisit Biotin and my skin cleared considerably.

I think the key is to drink plenty of water. That's what has been working for me.

I recently started taking Biosil and noticed my skin breaking out more than usual as well, I didn't experience this when I was just taking the B-complex, I think I'll go back to taking that.
