Seems like lately everyone is taking or has taken an antidepressant. I've even noticed that many people are taking them for things other than depression. So what are you taking? :-P

I know this is a personal question so feel free to vote and not comment.

BTW, I took Celexa™ for depression a couple years ago.

ETA: if you comment do tell what your experience has been. the celexa worked for me yet i still felt like my head was cloudy (if that makes any sense). when i stopped taking it i experienced major weight gain.

I currently take Lexapro for depression. In the past I've taken both Zoloft and Wellbutrin. I had good results with Wellbutrin. Now I'm having great results with Lexapro and few, if no, side effects.

I took Wellbutrin for about a year. The first weight-gain\" class=\"hrln\">couple of weeks I felt like I was floating and had all kinds of crazy side effects. After that the side effects wore off and I had these bursts of energy for a few months. After that was over I was on an even keel and just felt OK. I weaned myself off of them after a year, now I'm feeling depressed again.

I met a lady who is on Welbutrin yesterday. She seemed estatic (sp?) and said she'd suffered a breakdown that landed her in the emergency room not long ago. I can only imagine how happy she is to be on Wel.

Peaches, I know what you mean about feeling depressed again. I stopped taking Celexa a year and a half ago and I'm learning that my diet has a lot to do with my depression. Thing is, when I'm depressed, I could give a rat's ____ about my diet! *sigh*

Yeah, I took the Wellbutrin/Zoloft combo a little over 4 years ago. It worked well for me at the time. I had lost weight due to the depression and one of the side effects of the meds was that I lost my appetite. I went down to an all-time low weight for me as an adult. The other big side effect was sleeplessness. I had the biggest trouble sleeping while my body was getting adjusted to the meds and would spend many nights awake all night.

I recognized the symptoms of this current depression last fall and started on a Lexapro/Wellbutrin combo. I had very little side effects, maybe only a few nights with trouble sleeping. The psychiatrist took me off of the Wellbutrin and the Lexapro manages my symptoms just fine.

My one complaint is that it feels like my emotions are suppressed. I feel like crying sometimes and the tears just won't come.

I took Paxil while I was being treated for depression in the mid-90s. My biggest complaint was the weight gain. Can you say 30 pounds in 6 weeks?!! That made me angry enough to refuse the offer to switch to Zoloft. I took St. Johns Wort instead.

My doctor knew my rationale for not wanting to be dependent (not chemically, but dependent nonetheless) and encouraged me to make the decision that was best for me. Like ereshkigal reported, I felt emotionally numb. Crying is therapeutic and I felt blocked from this form of emotional release.

I'm taking St. Johns Wort, which I have been taking for about a year. I realized that I needed something when I saw that I was always "tired" and felt just blah...There would be periods where I'd have to fight back tears for no apparent reason and this had begun to happen too often for me to overlook.

The St.Johns Wort makes a noticeable difference in my moods. I'd considered getting a prescription but thought to try this first, and it's been working well enough that I don't feel I need anything else.

I took Celexa after my Mom died. I am usually all about natural/alternative therapies, but the Celexa was what I needed at the time. I stopped in '98 I guess and I haven't been on anything else since then.

i was on zoloft but a very small dose and i never took it consistently. i noticed i could work out harder and that i had insomnia when i did take it. i was seeing results but was discouraged because it just doesn't seem right, to need a drug to think positively. i struggle each dang on day to understand the sources of my dispair and try to develop a different way of thinking.

i've never been good with taking pills. they need to come out with a patch that doesn't have any weight side effects.

I think I'm going to try either St. John's Wort or Celexa. I heard Celexa has no side effects and St. John's Wort doesn't either. I find myself crying uncontrollably sometimes but it does feel better to get it out of my system.

Me too! That's why I don't like taking the pills anymore. I feel like I can't get too happy or too sad. I suppose that's the purpose but that state has always unnerved me. It's 6 of 1, half a dozen of the other *shrug*

I have been on zoloft for anxiety, however I am in process of getting back on it. I like zoloft but I had major indigestion problems which caused me to lose about 10 or 15 pounds. I also stayed very tired.

I experienced mild headaches with Celexa as well as lowered libido. When I got off I gained 20lbs in 1 month

St. Johns Wort huh? Maybe I should looking into this. I'm like teeky, I just don't like taking the pills and being dependent on them. I struggle every day. I do try to keep my Omega-3 intake up and that definitely helps!

I was taking Zoloft. I got off of it on my own because the more I thought about it I didn't think I needed some medicine to make me feel better.

So, I just started praying. I know that might sound cheesy, but thats what I did.

I can't really say how Zoloft worked for me because I only took it for about 2 or 3 weeks!

as well as lowered libido. ...

Yep, had this problem too and boy does that suck! One psychiatrist wrote me a script for Viagra to combat that, but my insurance wouldn't cover it and the price was like $10/pill. Not worth it in my opinion.

Ini yeah they can take viagra. But I have a friend on this new meds to help with her libido. Its that new purple pill that starts with an I...something like this. Unforturnately one of the side effects from those darn anti's is little to no sex drive and doctors will introduce Viagra to some ladies.

I took paxil for anxiety several years ago and the side effecxts were horrible, I really thought I was gonna die. I never felt like eating, it made me sick to even think about it. I lost like 30 pounds in a month. I would just sit and bounce my legs uncontrollably. I was always very we4ak and very thirsty. After the pills were gone I just stopped taking them.

Last year a few months after my father passed I started feeling anxious again and somewhat depressedso my doctor put me on buspar (did nothing but make me tired), next there was xanax also just made me constantly sleepy. Eventually It came back to the paxil but we tried a much lower dose and I had none of the side effects I had before thankfully. Paxil seems to be the only thing that I really FEEL makes a difference.

i've been on prozac for about 2 years now and it has really helped. libido sucks--but all the meds to try to fix it just leave me feeling worse. and i can also relate to the emotional suppression.

overall, the pills do help. but i don't wanna be doped forever, ya know? my mom died three years ago and i'm just dealing with the pain of her absence, though i know it's not over, kwim?graduating college, getting married, grad school... those things are stressful anyway, but doing it without my ma is pretty difficult also. holla if ya hear me

Has anybody ever tried St. John's Wort Herbal Tea? It seems like it would be easier to use this as opposed to taking pills.

I used to be on Paxil more than a year ago. I had a big problem with anxiety/panic attacks and the med. seemed to help. I also had counseling. I had to leave Paxil alone because it messed up my climaxing process. I haven't been taking any meds since then and I haven't had an attack in a long time.
