  • A Light Bulb Went Off

Hi everyone! Needless to say, this is my very first time posting on the loc-side, even though I've spent the majority of my time over here. I have been taking in so much information and browsing so many albums because I have always admired locs and I knew that one day I would loc my hair. I came here and read all of the posts from people wanting to know if they were really ready. Without fail, a loc vet would reply "you'll just know." That answer was both intriguing and annoying to me... until this past Thursday. I was browsing a loc album (I think it was Mysteree) and a small quiet voice inside of me just said "It's Time" and I knew I was ready. Now I know some of you are like , but that's the best I can describe it, and it really did happen just like that. It was almost a spiritual experience (for lack of a better comparison).

Anywho, I am so excited about this journey that I am about to embark upon . Right now I am in the process of finding a trustworthy loctician to start them off right (with two strands) and I will be taking over from there... oh, and I'm still not sure yet whether I will be palmrolling or latching. I just wanted to thank all of you for the wealth of information that you are so willing to share. Also, know that the pictures you provide are such an inspiration. Oh, and the vibe over here is always cool.
Okay, I guess I'll on back to lurkdom now.

Well, well, it happened for you! I guess it can be annoying to read the same response over and over. OTOH, there must have been some truth if EVERYONE here say the same thing. You are ready when no one and nothing can keep you from them. You may have apprehension, concerns, and sometimes a moment of remorse but those feelings won't deter you.

Don't stay in lurkdom -- keep us informed of your progress.

I know what you are talking about. It hit me a little over two weeks ago. I decided it was time. I really can not describe the feeling, but it felt like I had reached another level of my spirituality.

    Welcome to the loc family.

Congratulations! It's hard to describe that feeling when you know it's time. But you know it when it hits you. I'm happy for you. And I'll be thrilled to follow your locking journey.

Welcome! I know what you mean...Dezavoo's (sp) website was the final motivation I needed to start..that was a year ago!

    Congrads...

I have friend that tried to get me to lock years ago. I was like "NOOOOOOOOO way"! I was still feelin' the weave.

But one day I was ready...I call them "Oprah Moments" So everytime he sees me, he is happy for me. He always reminds me, in a "I told you so fashion", of how I was not feelin' locks or even natural hair.

Your journey will be enduring, but rewarding. Keep us posted, and I would love to see pictures.

    Good Luck!

Welcome to the other side of the Broom!! I know what you mean about that feeling and will go so far as to say that you probably felt a weight lift off of you too.

Like LeafethG said, you may have some "Oh Boy" moments on this journey, but in your heart of hearts, you will know that this was the right decision.

It won't be too long before you are saying "I should have done this sooner"

Today marks my 20th month and I am LOVING MY LOCS!!! I embraced each step on my journey. The advantage that you have over me is that you have this site as a source of information at the starter mark of your journey. I didn't learn about this site until I was over 12 months.

Peace and blessings to you. Document everything.

It won't be too long before you are saying...

I said that almost immediately after I had it done (2 weeks, 1 day.) I have been saying it quite a few times since then.

Congrats to you Locing is a journey that's for sure. One I'm always grateful for. Just finished washing my locs and they are wet on my head and I'm just feeling really peaceful and at one with my spirit right now.

Ok, how's that for spiritual loc experience

I'm sure you will have tons of questions. And we will all have answers of one kind or another. Yep it's a simple reply to say "you'll just know it" but it really is the truth.

congrats to you, blaque_gurl! i'm one of the many locked heads that tells folks that they'll "just know" (i guess it really is the spirit!!). i'd rather do that than encourage someone to step into something that they're not yet ready for [and in some cases, may NEVER be ready for].

    welcome aboard, and ask away!

Thanks to everyone for extending such a warm welcome. Now that I "know" I feel like I've been let in on a big ole secret . I hope to invest in a good digicam soon so that I'll be sure to document every step of the journey.

Oh, don't worry LeafethG, I'm sure I won't be in lurkdom for long. Once I get my babies started I know I'm going to have lots of questions -- and this is my only trusted source of info.

    Congrats to you nwhiwh!!

Yes, I'm going to start with two strand twists. However, I'm not sure how I will maintain them yet -- palmrolling or latching.

Thanks again to everyone for all of the well wishes. Good to know that others had 'spiritual' loc experiences as well. Now I don't feel like I'm going crazy -- at least not by myself anyways.

Just to let you all know, I'm going to get my starter twists done on Sunday afternoon. I decided against going to a loctician bcuz it seems so impersonal somehow. Well a really good friend of mine (almost family) has a daughter w/beautiful locs just below her shoulders. I really like her spirit and so I thought what better person to start my locs for me. Now, just as I sat here I latched a couple of my twists w/my fingers and I decided that I'm going to maintain my locs by latching. I want to see what the latch hook is all about too. I don't really know all the ins and outs so I'm seriously considering ordering Cherie's book. Anyone who latches feel free to give me some pointers and/or direct me to your pics. So far my inspiration (for latching) has been toy, kickinmaternity, PraipscalC and Quin.
